Hi all. I have my eye on a ex Palmer Sport BMW M3 at a reasonable price.

http://ww2.palmersport.com/bmw-m3-gtp.aspx

My question is wether the roll cage is either MSA or FIA compliant? The seller thinks it was installed by BMW performance but I have no way of verifying this.

How can I tell if it meets the requirements for competition?

The other things I know it needs to be race ready is:

- Kill switch
- Fire extinquisher
- Seat & Harness
- Bonnet & boot pins
- Rain light
- Locks disabling

Have I missed anything?

The only way will be by finding out out what rules or standards the governing body of the competition you are entering insist on.

Ask them for their rules.

Judging by the double bend in the front leg and the fact that it doesn't have an additional brace bar then I'd say it is no longer an MSA compliant cage, even if it was once, unless it is a homologated cage with a certificate.

MSA sanctioned circuit events such as CSCC New Millennium or 750 Club Enduro.

I have read through section k of the blue book and to my unskilled eyes it looks ok.

The double bend in the front leg is a bad thing now. Cant see any good photos of the feet so cant comment on whether its just bolted to the shell or bolted to a proper foot plate.

Looks to me like it the brackets are bolted to the shell. Do they need to be welded in for race use?

Harness bar looks too high for FHR regs, but may be bad angle of photo.

The scrutineers at Pembrey will probably complain about the door bars being too low.

And i think you need double doors bars to race at Spa?

If you have a look in the blue book there is a list of Scrutineers and their contact details; it may be worth asking one of them to look over the car.

the harness bolts are wrong - need to be in shear = 90deg (out of top or bottom of the tube)

Absolutely not acceptable to FIA standards.
