S2000 racers - MSA compliant cage and hardtop
Discussion
I don't know much about the S2000 specifically, but I know a bloke who will build you a cage specifically for your car with hardtop fitted. His workmanship is top notch, prices very reasonable (and it will be to MSA spec if you want it to be, as seems sensible)
He's based in Bracknell, Berks..

Hi,
With Mx5s you can not get a safe roll cage AND hardtop to fit.
Its due to sitting close to the roof, and cage obviously needs to clear your head.
However, I know MGF race cars run the hard top, as do Boxsters.
Provided the hardtop is securely bolted in place, and your have room, a cage + hardtop is doable/MSA Legal.

There were a couple of Honda S2000 racers out in CSCC Modern Classics irregularly over the last 2 years and they both ran with hard tops in place.
Have a look at this years race results on TSL for names. I think at least one raced in the Donington round. It might then be worth sending an email to the CSCC office asking them to forward your enquiry to the relevant person.

Sorry, but that's nonsense! With Mx5s you can not get a safe roll cage AND hardtop to fit.
I know of two "safe" full weld in cages used in national club racing in Mx5s with hardtops fitted. One was built by AAS in Newcastle and the other was built by Andy Robinson (who would be my preferred choice).
Andy, I would speak to Andy Robinson about building something as I don't think there are any "off the shelf" offerings.

on an open top car its very easy to see if the driver is too high / cage too low, on an enclosed car nobody can see. just about every hardtop car / and a fair few tin tops I've been in my head touches the roof, heck i've even raced one car where i had to tilt my head. technically not legal and not good if you roll it. Id say probably 50% of enclosed cars once the driver is in there isnt enough space between helmet and cage!!!!
So if you can do it properly depends on your height, the seat you use and how low you can get the seat. I can 100% guarantee you can get a msa correct cage under an s2000 hardtop. if its still legal when you get in it that depends on your height...
if you need to get as low as possible kirkey and tillet seats can often give you the extra inch or so. In my tuscan I use a aluminium kirkey seat the seat rails are welded into the car in such a position and the kirkey mounted directly to them so that my arse is actually lower than the top of the chassis tubes !!! it helps that the seat base is only a few mm thick... some seats can raise you 2-3 inches once they are in the car..

Would most likely be CSCC New Mill or 750MC Roadsports.
I already run an S2 Elise in FIA Lotus Cup Europe and will be running an S1 in CSCC Modern Classics - so something that doesn't clash and works well around those two.
I have the car and resources - I just need the time now and to tick off the research about the vehicle specific stuff (hence cage / roof question).
