mx5 only sprint class in the South West

Hello ,
I am a member of Bristol Motor Club. The club is mulling over having an MX5 only class at the various sprint events they do next year. They are also mulling over an mx5 only championship across various events such as hilll climbs, sprint and autosolos.
The sprints are
21st March at Castle Combe (1.75 laps) Organised by Bristol Motor Club
25th July at Castle Combe (0.75 laps).Organised by Bristol Motor Club
Llandow in May , the date isn't set. Organised by Bristol Motor Club and Bristol Pegasus Motor club.
the chamopionship idea is currently just an idea.
they are probably going to stick to roadgoing rules but it should , here is a quote from my mate on the committee
"We're not sure where the line will be for modifications - suggestions gratefully received. I'd like to think it'll simply be the same as Roadgoing as this just accomodates the popular cars that fall unfortunately on our class structure. However, if this is an entry level class, then limited modifications seems sensible. The down side of that means not all cars will be eligible as most are modified in some manner. There's no plans to separate 1600cc and 1800cc cars - the 1600cc cars can go in either the MX5 class or the main <1800cc class"
This is all the info I have at the mo, expressions of interest and suggestions greatly received , the more we get the more likely it will happen.

I'm interested in the idea of a sprint or hill-climb, but with my MX5 being supercharged it falls into odd categories.
What I'd love to see is a timed but non-competitive hill-climb or sprint, somewhat akin to the Sportives in the cycling world. The nice thing about them is you can compare your times to previous events to see how you progress but also compare your times to your friends on your own terms. Something half-way between a track-day and a full blown race series.
I'm sure there'd be many folk out there who would be interested in that sort of event. I would be at least.

You should be competitive in the ASWMC classes in a turbo / supercharged MX5.
But trawling through the regs suggests cut-off switches, roll cages, multipoint harnesses and whatnot may be required. Unlike a trackday or a RWYB where you can 'race' your road car without anything clever.Also, the regs aren't THAT easy to decipher
I also have a supercharged MX5 and I intend on doing a few sprints next year.
From my understanding you just run in modified production Classes with a multiplier for the charger.
My main concern currently is the splitter and duck tail on mine as I suspect they'll chuck me into a higher class due to not having the OE silhouette.

Yes, at least that's my understanding. I have a bucket (in date), harnesses which are not FIA and 4 point rear roll bar which are good for competing but not required.

10. All Sprint & Hill Climb vehicles must comply with

Regardless, I've seen plenty of road cars without cgaes runing in sprints and hillclimbs. PH even had an article last week on hillclimbing a brand new Golf R on loan from VW.

as I said earlier.. the regs are far from crystal clear to someone considering getting involved
I'd also concur however that the blue book is about the most confusing thing in the world. I'm really struggling to figure out what class I'd run in in mine as it has all the carpets etc.
I think the next action I have to take is turn up at an event as a spectator with my car get and get someone to look over it and let me know what they think.

That sounds like a reasonable course of action. I may do something similar
As an aside, I should get mine back from the body shop tomorrow.. the work's been dragging on a little, but fingers crossed, she'll be home soon!

Two throttle return springs
Hmm.. I wonder what qualifies as two throttle return springs? And how does that with with cars that have a fly-by-wire throttle?
As an aside, I should get mine back from the body shop tomorrow.. the work's been dragging on a little, but fingers crossed, she'll be home soon!

It completely depends on the class you are looking to compete in, I run a car in class A3 in the ASWMC events, even though it's road going my car has uprated suspension / brakes / induction etc. In the Midlands, you are limited to 1A tyres, when I run on these events I end up in the unlimited over 2L class as they have a different structure (due to the turbo loading).
There are events for completely standard cars but the championship we are considering would allow mods broadly as per the ASWMC regulations, the forced induction cars would be excluded though. In this case they would be eligible in the relevant class to the event.
