Stage Rallying + 1.5" Roll Cage
Discussion
I have a 1986 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 track car that was a tin top race car in it's previous life. I'd like to try a stage rally or two (tarmac single venue) but the cage is only 1.5" tubing - it's stickered up as a Safety Devices cage but I've no way to confirm the make/model as I've got no paperwork.
According to a copy of the Blue Book I found online - the minimum requirement for stage rallying is 1.75", unless "approved prior to 1.1.95" does anyone know if there is any way of approving a 1.5" cage for stage rallying without paperwork to back it up?
It is a 6 bolt in cage that has been beefed up a little - welded cross door bars, welded rear triangulation, welded harness bars, welded bar between B-pillars along the floor and bolted roof bars all bolted + welded to chassis plates. If it is an option to get the cage approved I am also looking into including the front turrets.
Edit: Forgot to mention it does have a log book, but only for sprints & hill climbs.

I very much doubt you will be able to use it. Even if you can find the homolgation papers it's been modified so isn't valid anymore. best bet is to try and find the scrutineer for the events you are interested in and ask them direct. Don't forget you will also need indate seats and harnesses to the right standard too.

Not unless the regulations have changed recently - which I doubt as that would invalidate countless numbers of already existing stage rally cars. Will have to look...
That never usually worries the MSA!.I must admit I haven't looked either, but when I was fitting cage into my Road Rally Car about five years back my understanding was it had to be at least 45mm unless that particular cage in that particular car had been homologated. My cage at that time was 38mm out of an old race car, but not homologated it didn't affect me much anyway as a cage isn't a prerequisite for Road events.
If the car already has a valid Competition Car Log Book, you should be able to get the category changed to Stage Rally. You are not applying for a new CCLB, but only changing the category. You will need to have the required safety equipment for Stage Rallies, i.e. Extinguishers, Homologated Seats and Harnesses, fuel tank protection etc.
