Historic saloons
Discussion
Hi !
Have raced (Standard Vanguard III) with HRDC since its inception (and before that in its other guises - TOP HAT etc) - A good crowd - clean driving and reckless driving standards are frowned upon - at the end of the day we are racing quite rare (these days) Historic saloons - Trim etc is sometimes difficult to source - it keeps you focused shall we say!
That said it is good competitive racing and in the main driving standards are 1st class!
Come and join the fun !

Clean driving is frowned upon? ;-) In all seriousness though I was at an event a while back and my wife commented on your series "how come their cars all come back in one piece?" So it was definitely noted that you didn't have any dodgem drivers out there.clean driving and reckless driving standards are frowned upon

I think you know what I mean :-)
Damage DOES occur but not normally due to poor driving standards !
Having Raced Historics for a number of years you do get to know which series to avoid and which to embrace - I have to say that HRDC for any newcomer wanting to race Historic Touring Cars is very much a safe haven.

I've raced with HRDC and It's previous incarnation Top Hat since 1999. It's brilliant fun, and a good bunch of people. I'd highly recommend it - Juiius looks after his drivers.
Body contact has sadly increased in recent years, but it is still rare. As with any motorsport, the 'money' has got in to some extent, but I'd still say it's a great thing to do.
PM if you'd like to discuss further.

I'm glad you said that as HRDC was the one I was looking at. Have been looking at a variety of cars and have spoken to Julius a couple of times. There are a couple of 101 Guilietta berlinettas around at the moment and an Abarth 1000OTS in Portugal which look interesting.
The Abarth is rarer but the 101s might be more competitive?

Yes, the 101 would be quicker, but to be honest a lot of people drive what they like, but if you want to win, then A40 all the way :-) Personally I drive a 100E, the reason being it was the very same car in which my carrycot was strapped to the Rollcage when it was both my parents family car and my dad's rally car :-)The Abarth is rarer but the 101s might be more competitive?
I'm fascinated by this. I spoke to…Julian is it?…and he seemed very accommodating. I fully intend to give it a go next year: ARDS is sorted, just the car that needs prepping now.
My car wouldn't make it into the Touring Greats class, but All Stars is a possibility. Would you say that you earlier comments re driving standards and damage apply to the All Stars?

It's tightly policed - misbehaviour means no invite back. Its a very good series full of enthusiasts, not wannabe BTCC drivers.
