Hello all,

Apologies in advance for what may seem like obvious questions but I am not at all experienced or knowledgeable in car electrics etc...

I have recently been fortunate enough to be given a Race Technology DL1 sport data logger which I want to install in my car. It is an old (MGb) car that I use for racing, as such has no ECU etc. My understanding is that the 'most' important inputs needed to get from the logger are speed and revs. Speed is dealt with by the unit (GPS etc) but how do I get the 'Revs' into it. Do I simply run a wire from the coil to the unit? If so, is there a specific cable that I need? I have looked at their (and other) websites and can't find anything.

Also if I wanted to try to gather braking and gear information, how would I go about this given there is no ECU?

Thanks in advance

Tanuki

Hi,

Firstly I would read this before you do any damage:

http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Comm...

Braking information is best done using the in-built accelerometers. However other people have simply taken the 12v feed to the brake lights and used that as an on/off indicative mapped to one of the analogue inputs into the DL1.

See section 1.2 - http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/index.php/DL1S...

For gear information there is a Gear / RPM table in the software which can be configured. The key there is to have the chart available for your gearbox. See here:

http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/index.php/RTAn...

Lastly there is a wealth of information on the Race Technology website in the form of the manuals, forums (where it's all been done before) - and the Knowledge Base, which is linked here...

the logger has rpm feeds from coil etc but as has been said check the manual first as you can blow it up if you get it wrong.

we use a brake switch to signal when the pedal is being pressed, ( inline pressure brake light switch) easy to wire up, and then on no ecu cars just add oil pressure and temp sensor into the analogue ports.
