Sounds good Steve, I am also looking forward to the new season here with the only slight problem being that I need to do a head gasket on the MX5 before being ready to run...
There seems to be a lot of events this year with the local and national calendars out - no doubt I'll bump into you again at a few events.
Still haven't decided which tyres to run yet though after the AD08Rs have made their way onto the MSA 1B list. I think this is a real shame as they were ideal for Autosolos. I don't really understand the logic in banning them compared to the now unavailable AD08s.....

This year it might come down to who has a set of AD08's left or who is called Daren Hall lol. There seems to be a lot of events this year with the local and national calendars out - no doubt I'll bump into you again at a few events.

I'll certainly be keeping my eyes open to see what the choices are! the good thing about running an Mx5 is that there is a lot people in the same boat (I think there is still some stock of larger AD08's (17's 18's) about!!)
Steve.
ps Bob, i've logged your reply as the 1st possible motorsport excuse of 2014

The gasket has turned out to be a bit of a problem though - the head is scrap with a crack in exhaust port #2. The car is now in pieces and I need to get hold of a new head before it can be rebuilt......
bugger...
Bob
I might have a go at a couple of rounds this year.
I did a few Solo's back when they were in their 'experimental' stage with Farnborough and Dolphin Motor Clubs, though, now the rules have tightened up a bit the Westy will be too noisy. It'll have to be in the S*itreon C2!
Great fun and an excellent, relatively inexpensive form of motorsport.
Do you still have to take turns to marshal in between runs?

Hi Warren, it depends on the event. Warren
I did events last year with various clubs in the East and only 1 required you to marshal. That was a CSMA event at North Weald.
All the others, Chelmsford MC, WSMC, M&MK, Cambridge CC had enough marshals to cover the whole event which was great.

I am not aware of any noise restrictions, car just has to be road legal, have an MOT and insurance and be driven to the event. It really depends on the venue, the blue book states that cars must be 'adequately silenced' unfortunately some venues especially in the south would be unavailable if too many noise complaints occurred.
The 'SRs' will normally say about excessive noise, possibility of sound testing and exclusion etc.
Made me laugh at Abingdon when I arrived for scrutineering in the Mazda:
'Noise tester' - can you start it up then?
'Me' - its been running the whole time whilst being scrutineered......
'NT' - oh ok, no need to noise test that then... off you go
Don't need a noisy car to go fast at a solo

How about a db killer for the westie? i suppose non list 1b tyres could also be pain?

I guessed it would depend on the event. Booked on the Bath one on 13th April at Kemble, clubmans class , should be fun !
only got the eunos in Jan so not entered championship, will probably do it next year.
didn't see you at the Bristol motor club one a couple of weeks ago. i got 1st in class and 10th overall which is a major step up for me.
upgrading to 15inch rims , see if that gets me closer to Mr Biss
cheers
How's everyone getting on ?
I had grand plans to attend at least half of the solos over this year but I had to pull out of the Devises one due to a broken car which means I've only managed one so far.
The other chap in the challenge series, Stephen Watts seems to be attending most of the events no matter how far away they are. I can't do too many motorway miles as 70mph is over 4k rmp, and with no sound deadening the impreza is hard going and if I stick to 55 - 60mph it takes blooming ages lol.
I had a good result at mendip raceway winning my class, but it was wet and slippy so I think some were not going 10 10ths.
Looks like the next one is July for me in Bristol, being based in Exeter Devon that's the closet one to me.
Might see you there :-)

I did the FDMC April Solo last weekend and got 13th overall and 5th in class. I was quite happy but it was ruined by my friend getting 9th overall and 4th in class driving MY car!!! They always say the first person to beat is your team mate. Pfffffft.
I'm off to the North Weald CSMA Concorde Solo on Sunday and this weekend I'm leaving him behind, ha ha.

Hi Horney, I think we met a few years back at your first solo in Bordon, I was in a blue clio cup then.I'm off to the North Weald CSMA Concorde Solo on Sunday and this weekend I'm leaving him behind, ha ha.
I saw your post in FDMC about your friend doing quite well, it's always the way!
Have a good one at the Nw solo. Oh btw are you going to put together any more videos? I remember one of yours being quite good.
Cheers :-)
