I need a new nomex race suit and was wondering if anybody could give me any ideas or advice??
I have a Sparco Sprint suit at present but it is very heavy and I need something a bit cooler and lighter. I have a budget of around £300-£400 any help much appreciated!

Is it for karting or cars? (I ask because your profile says you're a karter).

You wouldn't want to slide along the road in a car suit, for example, having been chucked out a kart.

I've just bought a triple layer nomex suit, OMP Bolt, from Rallynuts. Its really good.

http://www.rallynuts.com/race-suits/omp-bolt-race-...

If you join their loyalty scheme you also get extra discount. Worth a look.

AWS at Ashford every time Nick and the guys down there make fantasic suits either custom made or off the peg for a lot less then the big boys charge for basically the same suit,I'm very happy with the two custom made and embroidered suits I've had made.

And they made one for my son smile

It feels even tighter this year it must have been a good winter off smile
And yes my Son's legs are now a bit longer so no need for turn ups this season smile

Thanks for the help guys but I'm now sorted just bought a Sabelt suit from the Mode Racewear shop at Silverstone very lightweight and even looks good on me with womens lumps and bumps!! http://www.moderacewear.com/products/sabelt-ti-100... They are doing a package with suits, boots and gloves for £399 I thought Sabelt just made harnesses. I will let you know how it bears up as i'm doing quite a few events over the next few weeks. Thanks again

If you are a beginner then you should try with FIA approved suit. FIA provides the surety of the product. While searching on net, I found NOMEX 3 layers 8856 fireproof racing suit. It has a good heat insulation capacity and good aerodynamic design. The prize varies 490euro to 510euro.

If it's not FIA (or SFI in the US) approved then the race organizers probably won't let you onto the grid.

Being of generous proportions I had to search through every UK supplier / manufacturer in order to get a suit made to measure. Obviously it was going to cost more than 'off the peg' but the price differences between manufacturers varied between £75 and £175. In the end, the best price I could get was from Mode Racewear and Sabelt.

Seems a lot of money for suits here. I read you budget but providing that there is at least 2 layers of Nomex you can bulk out with cotton undergarments which will give the layered air gaps necessary. I have some military spec fire retardent thermal undies which I will use (one flippin' day). Helps keep the cost down a bit in what is an expensive hobby. Of course, if you can afford it, go for the best you can...

Unfortunately, it comes down to what the regs dictate. If you're average size though, there are several suits on eBay. The only reason I had a problem was because of my size. Not only did I get stung for having a suit made to measure, but there's also a charge for the extra material. I did get a suit from AWS a few years back but this time Mode / Sabelt were the cheapest, by quite some margin. It was still quite a lot of money for something I'll only wear 5 or 6 times a year though.
