Hi all, I had a quick thumb through the blue book and searched a bit but nothing came up trumps...

Does any one know if there are any msa regulations against cars with engine conversions being used in auto solos, 12 car or stage rallying? I heard some where on the grape vine that changes were due to come in ruling out cars such as pug.mi16 / gti6 conversions, or have I been lead up the garden path so to speak?

Many thanks :-)

best talk to someone from your local motorclub....they should know or will point you towards a scrutineer who will also know. Failing that why not ring the msa technical department...they will talk to you and give the correct info.

Closest I've heard to this is the decision by the organisers of the Welsh road Rally championship to ban re engined or overbored Escorts. The rumour mill went a bit wild on that but it wouldn't have affected anything you mentioned.

For road and stage rallying there are quite a few changes for 2012, so make sure any info you read (eg Blue Book) is up to date.

But:
Autosolos & 12 cars: not really anything applies other than common sense. Don't turn up in a jet engined Corsa.

Stage rallies: heavily dependant on event / championship regs as well as Blue Book. Sticking with the common sense theme though, there are plenty of things like Vauxhall redtop engined Escorts around, and these won't be outlawed any time soon.

Autosolo - as long as it has MOT and tax and is driven to the event, it should be fine. I've clerked them and I wouldn't turn away an engine swapped car.

12 cars - unless they've changed a lot since I was doing and running them, who is going to notice or care? hehe

Stage rallies - as long as the engine you are putting in is from a series production car or one of the allowed specialist engines (e.g. Millington) you should be fine. You won't get a log book if you put a Hyabusa engine in a car though. Nor a Peugeot with a Cosworth DTM engine wink. Plenty of RWD Escorts with Vauxhall engines out there.

However you should always read the book yourself to make sure you are happy that whatever you are planning complies with it, and look at the regulations for the events and championships you intend to do, as there is nothing to stop them imposing additional eligibility restrictions beyond what is in the book.
