What are SuperKarts
Discussion
Hi All,
Just joined Piston Heads as I am into racing and see that this site is mainly for car and bike piston heads ! I am trying to promote superkarts as most people think of the indoor "Go Karts" when any thing about karting pops up in conversation, I am racing a 250 SuperKart producing 90 BHP top speed 150 mph and with me in it weighs 218 kg so power to weight ratio is 2.4 kg to 1 hp !! and around Cadwell Park have the second fastest outright lap time on the full circuit, check out you tube,"Extreme onboard Superkart Win in HD Cadwell July2011, Carl Hulme" , hope you enjoy, and if your thinking of racing something this is a value for money motor sport considering the speeds achieved and very exciting.

Yup, a lot of us know what they are. Martin Hines was handy on them.
I race normal pro karts, and on some circuits I get a little bit aware of my speeds and the danger.
A super kart would scare the sh!t out of me! When the crash structure is my legs at those speeds I leave it for the brave.
Good luck, and well done.

Hi trophies, you will love it !! make sure you try it in the right place ie a circuit, I know a couple of guys who tried Karts out on the local industrial estate and ended up eating hospital food !! and I don't think it's being brave, but because you come through the classes the speed gets quicker and quicker and doesn't seem as bad as just jumping in a twin and off you go, I think if I had done that I wouldn't race one !! Do you guys race ?
i race cars so the kart is just a bitof fun. i did have access to a private road circuit, that was a blast, although you really needed to get a road sweeper down it first...
old chap retired so cant do that now.... i did hear of some long circuit trackmdays i.e. cadwell but never found the details.. mwould love to stick the long cicuit bodywork on it an run it round cadwell.

I think the superkarts were at Castle Comb a couple of years back when we were racing there. I was shítting myself just watching them! Talking to a couple of the kart nutters later, they were saying they were actually loosing their vision going up towards quarry due the the bumpy surface and being flat out!
Not my cup of tea really especially as my brother-in-law ended up with his knee caps where his hips should have been after hitting a shop (post office I think?) whilst racing on the Isle of Man a few years ago. He's a bit shorter now.........
Looks loads of fun though

we were racing at cadwell at the same time as the super karts, once. in the paddock next to us after their first race one of the drivers, was having his ribs gaffa taped up, then two mechanic held his arm out as they did the same to his wrist, whilst blood dripped off his hand
they then swept his kart into the truck and brought out the spare. he won the next race...
totally mad racing a long circuit kart with broken ribs and broken wrist....

Hi NTEL
I was racing in the IOM when that happened ! there was one in the post office and another into Empire Garage at the end of the promenade, bit risky but just had to drive within you limits, also had duke videos put on board camera on for the race, its on you tube but we put music over it so spoiled it !! This is the link,,, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlpSRarvp5I I was in a single cylinder 250 then not the twin, still hairy though

Aye.... our Malc was in a bad way for a couple of years while they rebuilt his legs. He was air lifted to the main land in a helicopter, the very same helicopter that crashed into the sea only a couple of weeks later!! From, memory he was racing a twin 250cc Suzuki ram air engined thing. Not sure which series he was in though.
