Apologies if this is a bit of a daft question but is there an easy way to find out which, if any, race series my car might be eligible for in it's current specification? It's just that I have done a few sprint events and track days, over the past year, and I would like to do one or two actual races. I'm just not in a position to spend a chunk of cash changing things just for the sake of one or two outings.
The basic spec is as follows;
1982 BMW 3 series
Full S/D cage & seam welded shell. (cage is currently bolted in only)
Race seat & harness. (unsure of FIA date) & stripped interior.
Coilover suspension & adjustable top mounts.
Wilwood brakes
1.8 twin cam engine (taken from later BMW 3 series)
Car remains taxed & MOT'd
I'm not looking to be the next big thing in the BTCC. Just have a bit of non-contact fun. Any help and/or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys. The rear wing is a 3 litre CSL item that TWR fitted to the E21 as part of the old BMW County Championship from 1979/80. I did wonder if the engine swap might be a problem but hoped still being a BMW item, it might be allowed? Ideally, I would have liked to run Post Historic Touring cars or similar. The MSV series sounds like it might suit though and am I right in thinking that the way they do things, my car could be competitive?
My e21 daily has an M52/2.8 with just over 200 brake and that's quite good fun. I also have an e21 335 that TWR built, with an M30 3.5 & triple Weber 45's. I think that should make 260 - 280 brake.
The thing I like about the M42 in my track e21, is that it means the car is still nice and light. It's pretty nimble and the close ratio box and low diff I fitted, means it pulls pretty well given it's modest power.
This is my daily.
