Quick Test Needed
Discussion
At the Britcar event at Silverstone we had a problem with what we think is a fuel pump when under load.
We've now replaced it but the only way we can see if that was the problem is to put it under load again.
I've tried but can't find anywhere that I can give the car a run-out. If we haven't cured the problem it will show up in less than 1 minute so I really want to avoid paying for a track / test day as it will waste a lot of money.
Does anyone know of a piece of private land in which I can get the car up to speed just to check if we've cured it? Happy to pay a fee but as above I don't want to splash out on a few hundred quids worth of test day when I only need a max of 2 mins running time!
I need to check asap as we're due in Brands on the 15th/16th Oct and I don't want to travel all the way down there from Liverpool in the "hope" that we've sorted the problem.
Many thanks

Is this any good (post lifted from Ten Tenths)?

Contact numbers: 01787 473348
Mobile: 07990 900 615
Testing available: Monday - Saturday (excluding bank holiday weekends)
Times: 9am - 5pm
Cost: approx £50 for testing, photo shoots available by arrangement
Reasonable noise levels accepted, however we do have to consider our neighbours.
The strip is 3/4 mile long with a turning circle at each end, it has a reasonable tarmac surface.
Available for cars, commercial and special purpose vehicles.'

If its a new pump your fitting and you think it may happen is it the design of the fuel system? What is your set-up from tank back to tank, whats the engine size/ type and what is the problem? Whats the reason behind your theory? What pump are you using red top etc, and whats its position, is it rubber mounted or vertical/ horizontal.
As above the rolling road would be a good bet, but putting a fuel pump under load would suggest more fuel passing through ( F/P x A)- more volume - more flow - less pressure and less pressure having less demand on the motor/ electrical side of the pumps operation, when the engine isnt running and your fuel pump is putting pressure against the regulator, if injection, then this is the time its under most load or being forced to reach a pressure set by the regulator. So if somethings having an effect under load then its more likely to be insulation breakdown on the ignition side.

Cheers but its a bit of a trek from where I am! 'Hello, I am Clive Blackwell from Gosfield Airfield Test Track.

I've got the car booked on a rolling road this tues 15 miles away so hopefully we'll find out if its been cured.
For anyone who's interested, it was a mechanical pump driven from a cam in the engine that failed on part of the casting and pissed out fuel. Was lucky not to ignite!
We've put a new pump on however it pulls fuel through with no problem when the car is static or below c. 4k revs but when under load the fuel chamber empties and nothing is getting into the engine.
Strange situation but with another new and uprated pump we think we've cured the problem but need to double check before embarking on a long weekend and 500 mile round trip to Brands.
