I've recently picked up a new helmet and will be competing at the weekend on a Stage Rally, the helmet currently doesn't have the MSA approval sticker. Can I just turn up at scrutineering and ask for the helmet to be checked/sticker applied or do I need to contact the organisers/scrutineer first?

Thanks

Won't help to ask ahead but generally you need to ensure all the approval labels are in place and visable then present it to the scrutineer who will give you a sticker (often they want a quid or two for it)
I emphasise making sure the stickers are visable for a couple of reasons- firstly, my dad bought a 'Bell' helmet from the states which didn't have a 'Snell' sticker at all. Secondly, they can be quite hard to find!

Stickers can only be affixed by "selected" scrutineers or AT MSA HQ - see Blue Book K 10.3.1 for more details.

They will put a sticker on at scrutineering for a fee of £1.30.

The Snell/BS stickers were applied by the manufacturer but it's the little blue helmet sticker I need.
Similar to this...

Do I really need to get it taken down to Motorsports house tomorrow to get it approved? That'll be a ballache frown

ETA, ah I've read that section of the Blur Book now and see where you mean. I suppose I should check the scrutineer on Sunday is one of the approved now!

Ah ok, should I pre warn the scrutineer or should they have some of the stickers in their bag of toys?

They usually have the stickers with them - that was the case when I turned up with a new helmet last year anyway.

They should have them with them although at my first meeting with a new helmet this year they didn't but they let me use it anyway.

normally best to find a scrut before your race meeting. could be worth trying to find one in the blue book that is local

Standard charge for the sticker, available at scrutineering, is £3.

Can anyone explain to me why you have to pay £3 for a scrutineer to look at the stickers on your helmet and then stick another sticker on it so that future scrutineers only have to look at that sticker instead of the other stickers that were already on it????

It's always baffled me...

You're having your leg lifted, £1.70 is the recommended price, we have to buy them from the MSA

I paid £3 at my first race this year at Oulton Park. I think I'll write to them, demanding a £1.30 refund! hehe

Yes it should only cost you about £1.30.

Take it down to a race meeting on a test friday and they can put one on for you

Got mine stickered at Rockingham over the weekend. Given its getting on a bit (SNELL SA2000) thought it was worth having it checked out before turning up to a race only to have it rejected. The sticker cost a massive £1.60!
