Hey guys,

I just wanted to pick your brains and get an opinion on my plans.

I really want to compete in motorsport and I am looking at getting a car set up for Sprints next year (that way I can still use it as a weekend car), I thought this would give a taste of track driving without the fear of running in a pack.

Has anyone else used this as a way to get into racing? Or should I look into Karting instead? The only downside I can see is that I am in the Southwest and we don't seem to be blessed with the amount of tacks down this way.

Plenty of hillclimb venues in the south west though.

Hills/sprints are a good starter motorsport especially if you already have a suitable roadcar.

Andy Priaux was British hillclimb champion as a youngster.

If going racing is a serious goal perhaps getting a load of pro-tuition on trackdays would be the best use of a budget.

Hi Dave,

I'm in your area and do sprints / hillclimbs, have a look at Bristol Motor Club www.bristolmc.org.uk
There are quite a few venues in the south, it's not cheap t start though as you will need a comp licence, overalls / gloves and helmet. If you want some more info let me know.

Cheers

Dave

Sprinting/hillclimbing is a great low-cost form of motorsport. However, if you divided cost by track time you'll be disappointed.

But some events are better than others. Abingdon is always excellent, barely time to check the tyre pressures between runs. Snetterton this year was mostly waiting (bloody Nat A boys causing all sorts of delays).
