HANS and seats

Right.... which means? Buying seat and HANS from same manufacturer?
Sorry I didn't mean that. Get your seat, If you are intending racing abroad you need an FIA labeled and in date one, the HANS has to be the correct angle for your seating position so it's recommended you try the HANS you buy in the car before you purchase. The thing you also have to be careful with is your seat belts, make sure they are a compatible width for the HANS. Don't get conned with buying HANS belts but check the width that is required.I have a high backed tillet, and the only thing I found with HANS, is i needed to put washers under the front of the seat to tilt it back otherwise there wasn't enough room to fit my HANS/helmet without having to bend my head forwards.
You do need to make sure the harness mounting point is at the right place for it though - there is a formula somewhere to work it out if you google. Seems to be to make sure the straps don't slide off the HANS by the mounting points being too far apart for it.

Thanks for all the input. I'm none the wiser however, in spite of your generous explanations.
Are there any major showroom retailers serving this kind of gear suitable for the East of England? (Demon Tweeks is just too far away)
I think I need to integrate the purchase of the seat and the other safety equipment by way of including a live body in the equation.

GPR and a few others are based at Silverstone, not sure that is close enough?
Basically most seats for a saloon car that are fia approved and new will be hans compatible. A 20 deg hans device will be what you need, unless in a radical etc. I run 3" luke harness that prob isn't a HANS one as they should be narrower at te hans point. But it is measured correctly and buckles at the right length. I will pick up a 2" wide hans specific system for next season.
It's all very much down to how it feels. I was worried my hans and helmet would be heavy in 40 min races but now I don't web notice it.
Not sure where some of the other retailers are but maybe Nicky Grist or someone else is close too.
