Work Experience
Discussion
Hello my name is Robert Sykes, I’m 19 years old and I’ve just finished 3 years at college: BTEC 1st Diploma, BTEC National Award and BTEC National Diploma, all in Motorsport Engineering to an overall Grade DDD (Top mark), At The College of West Anglia, Wisbech.
I’m posting today regarding work experience within the motorsport industry; I had applied for a Foundation Degree in Motorsport Engineering, however due to lack of interest the course has been cancelled. I don’t want to lose touch with Motorsport so I need to keep on gaining experience, either as help at the trackside or any work as part time.
If anyone needs any extra help with their racing please contact me as I’m happy to take as much experience as I possibly can, I also have a full UK drivers licence, and I have just got my Passport. I live in Benwick near Peterborough and I’m willing to travel.
I have gained a lot of experience with Formula Fords and I’m building my knowledge on a Radical ClubSport, also i've worked on the Radical in my on time, for example, out of college term time to continue gaining experience unlike other students.
Please contact me for further details on what experience I have in full and also if you want to look at my CV.
My email is: sykes-c7@sky.com
Regards
Rob.

Friend of mine has applied to the University of Derby with regards to their motorsport foundation course. I went with him on Saturday and had a tour around their workshop and garages.
They're accepting applications at the moment for 2012. The course tutor seems like a great guy and is really into his motorsport.
May be worth a phone call.

I've send a letter to them already with no reply. I also had a tour round the workshop when we went to collect the engine from the Clubsport i've been working on and they said they get loads of letters but nowhere near enough placements...Flipatron said:

You should go and see them. It's easy to throw a letter away but to turn somebody who is offering themselves is harder
Can't be more true, I never send letters. I either ring or go see them ( if it's not too far away) to try get a placement or job. Anybody can send a letter out, but if you ring them or go see them, it shows you really are interested and dedicatedHello all, sorry for my late reply, been busy with some racing and set up at college (I've been allowed to go in on a Volunter basis and help setup and go to the races) Hence too busy to sit on the Net..
I hear what your saying about Radical, but i have been in there to collecet an engine and spoke about work there, they said they very rarely have openings because because people come and stay... I have been in contact with many race companies but they all say 'You only have college experience' even though over the summer i have been racing with proffesional teams..
I really hope theres someone out there that needs some help and would like to see my experience.
