CCI - Genuine disappointment in their quote
Discussion
Just got a quote back from CCI for my Civic, which I use in the road going classes at sprints/hillclimbs and autosolos. Having recently moved to within walking distance of work, and buying a banger Mondeo for daily use, I thought CCI would be able to offer a good price for the Civic to cover less than 2000 miles a year for travelling to and from events, TPFT only. I am a paid and active member in my local motorclub and hold an MSA license, yet they quoted me nearly 40% more than I was getting for full unlimited mileage fully comp. road policies.
I know insurance is a pisstake in general, but I was not expecting that.
Maybe I am the wrong kind of client for them, I mean a nipper (25) in a Civic, must be a chav right?

I read an interesting article on insurance recently, which stated that limiting your mileage often increases your premiums!
Premiums are calculated by a computer using lots of risk factors, and the computer will be calculating the premium based on you only driving 2k miles per year.
The computer thinks you don't drive very often and don't have the experience, and that shorter journeys are more hazardous compared to say motorways which are the safest type of roads.
If the civic is over 10 years old you may be able to get it onto a classic policy, so long as it's garage. It's these policies where the limited mileage comes into its own and is often a requirement.
The craziest point of the article was relating to parking; garage/drive or road. If more vehicles in your postcode are stolen from garages, it's cheaper to insure them as on parked on the road as the computer sees it as less risky!

I doubt that, it might be based on statistical data, i.e. there might be proportionately more claims on 2000 mile policies than 10000 mile ones, but I can't see them bumping the premium on the basis of the driver being less experienced. If they do it's a bit warped, most people on limited mileage policies either have classics or competition cars, neither of which I would generally expect to be owned by an inexperienced driver. Shorter journeys vs motorway miles may hold some weight though.
Haven't looked into a classic policy, (car is 15 years old), but the quote from REIS was more than acceptable!

CCI are totally useless. Still waiting for a return phone call since 2009 and also 2010. In 2009 they quoted my husband and I £530 and I have been driving since 1967 and my husband since 1969. We were supposed to be given a discount having done recognised performance driving courses.
Be very careful if they promise track cover as I know of two lots of people who were existing clients of theirs with track cover and since renewing this has been removed without notification. It was only when the policy holders read through the paper work that they realised what had happened. CCI were not interested that they had misled their clients.

But i do think there's lots of people who have limited mileage policies that aren't motoring enthusiasts/classic/competition cars. Think of all he old ladies popping to the shops, city drivers, etc. They only do 3k PA max so would no doubt tell that to the insurers when asked. And those two categories are much more likely to make a claim i'd imagine.
As Diana used to say, 'It's a minefield out there'. Happy shopping, glad you got the result anyway.
