racing for golden oldies - the drivers that is!

Well I would call myself that I suppose - I'm a reasonably fit 65 year old with a life long interest in anything petrol powered.
At the mo I have an Elise R which I am thinking of selling if I can find a form of motorsport which caters for people of my sort of age. I fancy some circuit racing at club level, but I'm competitive enough to want a chance of winning and realistic enough to know thats unlikely in a field of 20 year olds.
So where is the car racing equivalent of "seniors" athletics? And no suggestions of two stroke powered zimmers please.

Have a look at Sports 2000. There are age-related classes with an over 50's class at each race, and an over 60's award at the end of the season. Low running costs too.

I'd strongly recommend something classic car based. Great racing, great hold their value cars and frankly great fun to drive. There is a huge range of different series to suit most classic cars across the UK and Europe. The other bonus of classic cars is they are much easier to look after if you have basic mechanical skills.
To make this option work for you I'd suggest you work out your car purchase budget and start looking at what you can afford from there and let that dictate the series you go into.

I race with the Classic Touring Car Racing Club and there's a, er, wealth of experience in the paddock...

Plenty of "classic drivers" racing with the CSCC - a very friendly club & offering plenty of good value for money track time. Seperate series for Tin Tops, 60s classics, Future Classics (70s, 80's cars), modern German cars & Locaterfields. All races are 40 mins long with a pit stop so 2 of you can share the car or you can do the whole race on your own. Opportunities to race at Spa & the old Nurburgring, too.
