Discussion
Hiya i've raced motocross now for 8 years and now want to try my hand at racing with 4 wheels. Only thing is I have no idea where to start!
I would like to do circuit racing in saloon style cars but i dont know what clubs are best or even what series is best for a beginner.
Im just wondering if anybody could help me in what i would need to get started? I understand I would have to get a license and get the right safety gear.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Ben,
There'll be lots of people on here in a mo telling you that their series is absolutely the one for you! My recommendation FWIW is get onto the club websites (BARC, BRSCC, 750MC, MSVR, CSCC, MGCC etc. - just Google them) and see what's out there. They have race meetings listed as do all the circuit websites. So after spotting some series that take your fancy, find out when and where their next appearance is and go and see them racing. Go into the paddock and talk to people. Some are more friendly than others but most people like the interest being shown in their car and race series and will talk happily unless they're in the middle of some sort of crisis.

you'll need a go motorsport pack from the MSA which has the relevant forms and info in how to get an ARDS test which you will need to pass (not hard). if you're over 18 you will need a medical for your first licence which will be a national b.
for a new comer to racing always buy a pre-preped race car (much cheaper than preping your own), or there are now loads of people that offer affordable arrive and drive packages(they'll be along soon i'm sure).
if you choose to buy a car, work out your budget and choose a car that you can afford the running costs of as well as the purchase price. try not to get something too obscure and try to work out which car you could race in as many different series as possible (no point buying a car for 1 series which could be caned next season)
you'll find club racing very friendly and people will always offer advice because they always want more drivers on the grid. get along to some meetings, talk to drivers and see what you like the look of.

& Ben, have a look at any of the CSCC series. Good value for money, plenty of track time, you can share a car with a mate if you want to cut costs (or maybe even "earn" a hire fee) & very novice friendly.

Tin Tops, Future Classics & Deutsche Marque are probably the best series to look at for someone new to the sport.
