Historic race entry fees?
Discussion
I'm toying with the idea of doing some historic racing. I know that it can be very expensive if you do the premier events but I'd be keen to know what the average race fees are for a UK historic series.
Not sure what I'll be racing yet - could be something like a Frogeye Sprite but I have a serious hankering for a Lotus Cortina.
I just don't want to stretch myself in buying a nice car to find out I can only afford do to a couple of races a year.
I currently race in the PR8 Production BMW championship and I will continue to do so (it's well organised, cheap and the people are great) so any historic stuff will be 'on the side'.
Any suggestions or advice on a series or a suitable car would be gratefully received.

we've been running a 59 MGA and a 59 Sebring sprite in Classic K and Swinging sixties with the CSCC, entry fees seem about the same as normal for club racing.
The HRDC race at SIlverstone with weekend is a bit more but thats probably as its the SIlverstone GP circuit.
If your interested in running a sprite, give DOM a call at midland classic restorations, they prepare and race quite a few.

I used to race a frogeye in the healey championship and also some rounds of the fisc championship. Great fun cars to drive
It would be very worthwhile calling Gordon Elwell at classic revial froeye sprite specialist (www.frogeyesprite.co.uk) He's won the healey class d many times raced his car "meg" at the goodwood revival and I'm sure he'll give you any info you need. He's been racing frogs for about 40 years and knows more about them than is good for any one person.

Race entry fees really depend upon track time/track and what sort of catering is offered.
Part of the fun for me with historics is longer events and the CSCC offers 40 mins events at circa £300 and the one hour race at Spa was I think about £500, the Nurburgring 3 hour race will probably be closer to £1k this year as some of the race sponsorship has gone and fees there have increased recently.
The Masters series is a significantly more upmarket affair and entry fees are circa £600/£700.
I think the Spa 6 hour is about £2k but the thing to remember is that with longer races you can have a co-driver who you can share the costs with.
I would have thought your proposed purchase would go well in the CSCC Swinging sixties as this year it has split on engine capacity grounds and hence you would run against relatively equally quick cars.
But please don't take my word for it go to some of the meetings and I am sure the decision will make itself
Have fun
