Piece of cake getting cars into Dubai. I'm not sure about classics but it's a really straight forward procedure for the large part. Budget $4k USD for a container or less for a RORO.
I'll have a quick check of the costs for you in the morning when I've got my works computer infront of me, but off the top of my head I think it's 5% duty, then the regular costs of getting it plated etc (tasjeel etc). Definitely one of the easier places though, and shipping from the US is a doddle.

I can't think of any reason you couldn't register it, there's quite a lot of 60's muscle cars out there, the only stuff I've had a hand in shipping has been newer though so best I have a quick check up, but afaik it shouldn't be a problem.

if you could do that stu, that would be fantastic thankyou!

as you say, importing isn't an issue and i've seen a few highly modded mustangs on the abu dhabi classic car club website.

if i'm correct though, these cars came with an inline 6 originally and this one now has a v8 as well as the mustang front clip. i saw an early 50's business coupe on dubizzle a few mths back but it still had it's 6 pot fitted. it's the engine swap that is causing me to question it but can't seem to find any rules regarding this.

Not a problem mate, I'll make a couple of calls in the morning and see if I can find out about the engine issue too while I'm on.

You should speak to Gaurav Dhar at the classic car emporium, I know he had a few issues getting his 32 roadster registered, he managed it however.

If you want something local, I know where you can find such cars as a 1950 chevy pick up truck (custom paint etc), ford mustang 1965 fastback and some other american classic.

Regarding importing, if you go down this route please let me know how it goes as I've spotted a few cars in the US which I wouldn't mind importing.

google finds an email address for g dhar at the rolling art emporium, is that the very same?

i've seen a few classic muscle cars for sale - pontiac gto, couple of mustang coupes and fastbacks etc. - but none are quite to my tastes for the money they are asking and non have aircon. the choice in the US is simply huge but the downside is i'd essentially be buying sight unseen.

i will let you know if i do this yes.

bugger, someone's had it at the BIN price.

Stu - would still love to hear from you as i'm in discussion with the owners of a few US based cars and need to get a handle on shipping costs etc.

I'd be interested in info on importing an LHD car from the US, too.

You could always drop me a line if you're looking for US classics, hot rods, etc.... I have a friend / colleague who sources vehicles for discerning clients, which alleviates the surprise of receiving a vehicle here which may not be as advertised. Alternatively, he will also inspect a vehicle for you prior to purchasing it. As for shipping costs, a 40' container is around US$ 4,000.00 ish. I have recently brought two off-road buggies in which are now road registered!

If the car is genuine and unmolested, registering it here (Dubai) is no issue. If it is a genuine 'hot-rod classic', you could go down the classic car plate route from Sharjah.

I'd be looking at a first generation Mustang, second generation Mopar Minivan (Voyager/Caravan/Town and Country) or Pontiac Fiero.

I am buying a 1980 Corvette in Dubai and was wondering if it's possible to get a Historic/Antique registration plate (you know the Brown colored ones) for it since it's 31 years old. Also, who is the most reasonable (price-wise) person in town who can work on this car, I can get all the parts from the US, that's no problem. Any help would be appreciated.
