So, new 4x4 time.

Whilst I had the relatives over we did all the touristy stuff, including 3 bouts of off-road duneing. Brilliant, simply brilliant. although it depends HUGELY of the driver you get. Anyways, I was amazed at how nice the Land-Cruisers were. Comfortable on the road, loads of space and fiendish off-road. I'll buy one of those then. Went for a test drive today, and all was good. Given the cost, I opted for the V6 (I know, I know but hear me out) and a medium spec'd interior. The price was 208k.
However, I wanted to have a look at the Nissan Patrol as it look kinda nice and the desrt safari guys are thinking about switching (they had one on trial).
Thing is, next door to the Toyota showroom is the Chrysler/Jeep showroon, and I liked the look of the new Cherokee. So popped in there, and this is where it all changed.
Have you seen the 2011 Durango???!!! It's a big, menacing, 5.7 V8 Hemi lump which isn't as poky as the X5 (4.8) but it cruises at 100/120 at 1500 RPM, and is as quiet as a mouse. Then the options...everything for the top of the line one, but even the low level one has more than enough kit. The price of the basic model is 145k, and the top end is 190ish. I would have bought one today, but they need a full day with the X5 to give me a PX figure.
Does anyone have any thoughts as why this is a bad idea??!!

Yeeeeeeaaahhh, looked at the Prado's, but they're a little small, limited on the toys and are a bit more money. If I was being honest, I'd say they're perfect for the wife!
Not sir ethe Durango is any good off-road, given its fairly low centre of gravity. thing is, how often am I likely to do that....well, never. A couple of mates have pimped up wrangler's, so I'd jump in there!
Come on...be harsh....are the Durango's sh!t??!!

There was a write up on them in today's National. Seem's they're based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and I was really impressed with the new on them when I looked at it. The big issue, as with all Yank cars, will be depreciation. I'd be looking for a very generous PX price if I were you.
Nice to think of that 'new car' feeling though - haven't had that in years myself.

If off road not so important get a second hand srt8 cherokee
I'm gonna get a new car...can't be doing with continuously repairing them!Edited by dxbtiger on Saturday 30th April 19:36
I guess a New SRT8 would hurt the wallet too much?
I spoke to a guy in the office, and although he hasn't seen the New Durango, he said that for similar money, he'd go for the Yokon Denali....
Any thoughts?!

New one is 200+ I think, not sure what a 12-18 month one would be with the balance of the warranty.I guess a New SRT8 would hurt the wallet too much?

Seriously rapid cars, have been killed in my mustang by them on more than one occasion.

Infinity FX would be my choice, the base V6 is pretty nippy and the 50S model with the V8 great.
The V6 with all the toys under 200k with the v8 at 240k.
Not great for proper offroading but otherwise very good.
Anyone else think the pre facelift version of these looks better? The V6 with all the toys under 200k with the v8 at 240k.

If the new Durango is anything like the last one, then they're crap offroad. Plenty of power and a great highway cruiser, but as soon as you see a sand dune, you'll find that they are too low and that the radiator is the first thing to leave it's mounts and get lunched by the fan.
I can't comment about the new Durango, but will need some convincing that the engineers have finally got this sorted. The same happens with the Ford Exploder.
Patrol or a Cruiser and you can't go wrong!
