Same as a few years ago but thankfully with less fatalities.

What is wrong with these meatheads!

It is outrageous. The authorities keep banging on about reducing speed and reviewing road layouts etc, but how about teaching people to drive in the first place? Without that you'll never stop it. Making people accountable for their actions as well, rather than spending so much time and effort collecting plate numbers for made-up speeding fines.

"Saturday's accident was virtually impossible to avoid, but the severity could have been greatly reduced said an expert.

Dubai-based Kailash Tiwari, who has been a road safety specialist for 30 years, told Gulf News that the size of the accident could have been reduced to four or five cars if drivers had received better warning about the road conditions ahead and education about how to drive in such weather".

What a fecking ridiculous thing to say, Mr Tiwari! Road safety specialist??! Received better warning?? What more warning do you want that's more obvious than the fact that you can't see beyong 5 metres in front of the car?!! Idiots!

It is lack of education I think, even the road safety ads on tv are rubbish. What they need is some hard hitting ads such as the uk think campaign. To me the speed is not the issue but lane control and situational awareness which are just appalling. I also think everyone should have to take a proper test not just transfer the home country license across, but the test should be fair and include a theory exam as well as practical stuff.

Totally agree. I took my parents up to Khasab at the weekend and drove back on the Emirates Road in the dark. There was absolutely no lane discipline, there was tailgating at ridiculous speeds and there was even a few vehicles with no lights on. It's scary how we start to see all this as 'normal' out here.

A chap on my MBA course was involved in this and his 10 month old X5 is written off as a result.

When I asked him how fast he was going he said "140 to 160, like everyone else"

But it was foggy I retorted.

"But it is dangerous on that road; you have to go fast all the time or someone will drive into you"

Er, hello? Retard.

Serves him right then. Shame he had to contribute to the whole mess though.

What really gets on my nerves is the large number of irresponsible parents I see with young children or even babies not properly secured into a car seat whilst driving. Surely this should be a requirement by law?

Have you seen the little boy standing on his dads legs with both hands on the steering wheel while daddy is 3 inches from your bumper flashing like mad at 160kmh?

It beggars belief - really does.

Oh well - the gene pool could do with the odd cleanse now and again - it's just a shame that it often involves innocents as well.

The approach to child safety really bothers me, moreso because most of the time you see these kids climbing all over the car yet the parents are strapped in. Two things have really pissed me off recently:

First off, one of those LWB Wranglers went down my street last weekend with the roof off. There was a boy of about eight stood on the rear door and holding on to the top of the cage.

Secondly, we were driving back in to our area the other week and we saw a Boxster with the roof down, mummy and daddy strapped in and a very small baby being held...by the driver!

Aaaaagggggghhhhhh!

(Sorry - had one of those weeks when you wonder what the feck you are doing putting up with all of this st!)
