Read up on this yesterday. Quite interesting.
Bahrain remains the only country in the world where a shiite majority is led by a sunni minority. Only three countries in the world have a shiite muslim majority - Bahrain, Iraq and Iran. The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait has restless shiite minorities of their own.

Not looking good for MEOS or the GP, is it?
And why are the media keeping a lid on it, just a couple small articles? Not wanting to give the locals any ideas?
This is being fueled by discrimination of shias by their government for jobs and advancement. The shiite population in the UAE stands at just 17 percent and historically appear to have been treated equally. Therefore I don't see it happening in the UAE. And why are the media keeping a lid on it, just a couple small articles? Not wanting to give the locals any ideas?
But why dumb it down in the media?
It barely even gets column inches on GN website.
ETA: Seems like a pretty big deal on the BBC website. Nice shots of tanks rolling into Pearl Roundabout area. Even 7 Days seems devoid of Bahrain news.
I bet a Dirham that there is a news blackout from on high...

BBC and Al Jazeera have pretty good coverage.
Local media outlets are likely to be gagged.. our internet is also being heavily restricted (in speed, not access)
Protesters have threatened to disrupt the GP, so I think it may well get canned. Depends if the police / army continue being so heavy handed.
Bahrain as a country is going to do a lot to come back from this.
