Any idea what the procedure is?
Tool up to Oman, get stamped, come back?
Or stamp in hatter, on to Oman, then back via hatter for more stamps and new visa??
Yeah, just drive to Hatta...which, I think, is in Oman! I wnet to Mussandah (no idea if that's how you spell it) for a weekend for a bit of diving etc. Had it just been a visa run, I'd have turned round after 50m and driven back again. 60 chips or so, and that's it.Tool up to Oman, get stamped, come back?

Half way along, you will pass some port-a-cabins. You have to stop and get a UAE exit stamp
Once done, carry on along the road until you come to a huge building, this is where the "customs is and you will have to open boot for search (they will give you a "clear"ticket
Carry on until you cpome to another large building (Immigration), pull over and park
Walk into the building and fill out a Visa application form
Give passport, "clear"customs ticket and money (AED90) to man/women behind counter
You will get a Visa put into your passport
Get back in car and drive towards a security hut, give the man the ticket
20m past the security hut, do U-turn and head back
you will need to pay a AED20 exit fee at a small cabin
drive back to the large building and hand over passport for an exit stamp
Once got, drive all the way back through the "Customs area"and keep going
you will reach back to the UAE border point
Park and go to the counter to get a UAE Entrance stamp in Passport
You will get a 30 day Visa and a small ticket
As you drive out you will have to givbe the ticket to a security guy and away you go back to the Hatta Fort Round-a-bout
All told, around 3-3.5 hours.
I have been told that you do not need Oman Insurance cover for the car anymore, but when we were doing it for the Mrs every month, we were always asked for it.
If you need Oman insurance cover, this can be got at the Oman Immigration or after the UAE exit post, there is a large petrol station and next to it are 6-7 shops all doing Oman insurance - 3 day is AED75
