Hi folks,

I'm currently looking to move on from my current role in the UK. With 10 years in sales, the last 6 have been in advertising for a large, well-known FTSE250 company. A friend of mine suggested looking at roles in the Middle East, and the idea has taken root somewhat.

As a complete noob to all this, I'd really appreciate any pointers re. good recruiters to deal with, how the process happens wrt interviews etc, any pitfalls to be avoided and important questions to ask.

I'm about to turn 32, no ties here, disillusioned with the role I'm in now and looking for something exciting and different where I can work my backside off and earn good money. I have a solid and proven track record in my current role, so where do I even begin in making this happen?

All advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would try with some of the International Recruiters, especially those based in UK. I do think you could perhaps get a better package going down that route.

I have no idea of Recruitement Consultants in your line of work - sorry.

Sales/Advertising: there are a few on this here forum in that line (if memory serves). I guess like everywhere, Dubai is a tough sell at the mo.

Good luck and keep us updated

Used to know a few people in recruitment, many of them have left though

What do you actually do at the moment, Advertising, Sales etc?

Half of my friends seem to be Graphic Designers, Branders, Digital Media types, could perhaps point you in the right direction

I'm in a similar situation. 32, advertising, 13 years experience, had enough of London. Difference being that I was born in Abu Dhabi. Currently looking at a move back to that part of the world just as a break from the monotony of the same st different day scenario so will follow this with interest!!

Same as me really. Enough of the London commute. Had a cracking job with a fantastic bank. Loved the people I was working with...we were all friends not just colleagues. But, still had a ste existance.....work, home, dinner, bed...etc, etc. Ok, so I've forfeited the frineds and cracking job, but I'm home by the pool by 16:30 and lapping up the good weather for 10 months a year. I'm now thinking about buying a place here. Am I going OT? It's the wine.....

This sounds like it'll be quite a long process. I have a lot to think about but right now, the idea REALLY appeals.

it doesn't have to be a long process.

a month ago, i had a recruiter message me via linkedin asking if he could send me a job spec. i may be interested in. i accepted and had an interview 5 days later. we agreed terms yesterday, the contract is winging it's way to me now and once the formalities are sorted [medical, refs etc.] i can discuss a start date.
