So there I am, in the queue, waiting for number 2081 to appear whilst reading the customer service awards platered all over the walls. 20 mins go by, and bingo, I'm in. I get to the counter, smile say "good afternoon" and explain I'd like to open a new account please (for the new villa). Get a grunt in return from some bird who I could only see her eyes. She asks for every single document I have ever owned, and I politely oblige.
She then looks at the tennancy agreement copy and says that the landlords signature isn't complete. It is with the exception of the last 0.05mm is missing due to the copier.
Even though the original was in front of her, she refused to accept it, and didn't mutter another word, but pushed her button to receive the next victim.

You know when you have one of those out-of-body experiences where you leap accross the table and belt someone in the face and don't stop going mental till you wake up.....I had one. On the way back to the office I don't think I have repeated the C word so many times in my life.

I almost went postal in the Etisalat shop last week for a similar reason. You know that these encounters are going to be testing but how can people spend their days being such total tts?

Should've gone in your best dish-dash, and you'd have had no issues Nick wink

Quite, and my comedy beard!
To be fair though, I did go back fully armed and was served by a lovely, helpful lady and was in and out in 5 mins.
Job jobbed. You watch, it'll be for the wrong house!

3 hours when I arrived.

I eventually misread my ticket number, jumped in, and 30 seconds later, had paid my deposit and was out.

It's a worse place than the passport office in Peterborough, and that's saying something

Have I got all this to look forward to, or are these isolated experiences?

Moving in 2 weeks so thought I'd best start to get prepared!!!

10th would work for me.

I'm overseeing the fit out of our new office in Jumeirah Lake (JLT2 for those in the know)
Last time I was over they put me into Atlantis the Palm, but this time I think I have an apartment on the Palm short term... I'm in for 3 weeks before heading to the UK for a break and then back to DXB.

Permanent digs to be sorted out later, see the other location thread for the map!!

When I signed the lease on my apartment, the estate agent offered to set up my DEWA account for me for a few extra dirhams.

I can't remember how much it was off the top of my head but it seemed pretty reasonable and I was all set up the next day with no queueing or any of that stuff that Chilli describes so well. I think they just needed the deposit cheque, a copy of my passport and visa (which they already had for the tenancy contract).

Jeez...just get your PRO to sort your DEWA; that's what they are for.

I'm sure I don't pay for a PRO to sit on his arse all day drinking tea....oh, wait...

Thats what I did too. The Estate Agent did it all for me, all I did was give him the AEd1000 deposit rrequired by DEWA

You must be joking. Mine took six months just to get me a residence visa.

DEWA mmmmmmm excellent service been in Dubai 7 months and never received a bill despite asking 3 times. I have given up now whilst keeping some money aside in case. Better earning interest for me than for them !!!!

No Complaints from me (yet)

This happened to a friend of mine, was towards a year before they found out that their monthly DEWA bill for the villa was in the region of 5k and they were hit with a 50k bill.

Hope you are putting enough aside....
