What is it with drivers here in the UAE and their inability to move out of the fast lane when there is traffic behind them??????

Take for example this morning. Driving to AUH (as I do daily), this Lexus (yup, with tinted windows & Ajman number plate) was in an obvious hurry to get to his destination. This bint in a white Eos was happily cruising in the outside lane doing between 150-160km/h (good on her), however, the Lexus squeezed in between me and her (I had flashed her to move, but she refused, even though she had opportunity) and proceeded to tailgate her and flash his lights. Again, she did not move over and appeared oblivious to him. The Lexus saw a gap on the inside lane and went for it, and then proceeded to move alongside the Eos and squeeze her over to the hard shoulder (obviously frustrated).

He got past her and she flashed him like mad! However, the obvious scenario was that she should have moved out of the way. She had plenty of opportunity to do so, but did not - why did she not just move over and by doing this, avoided the situation whereby both could have ended up in a tangle of steel?

I am not saying that the bloke in the Lexus was right in his actions, but it could so easily have been avoided.

Its not a rant or should it be, as it happens to me often enough when drivers don't move out of the way.

As with many over here - arrogance and ignorance are a dangerous mix.

You see stuff on the road that simply boggles the mind - it does make you ask whether certain groups are actually significantly more stupid than others. Some of the things really make me wonder how on earth they thought that what they did was a good idea and safe.

Morons.

That early morning drive to AD is a real nightmare now. I cannot believe some of things you see.

I do it about 5/6 times a month and the knobs who will not get out of the fast lane are just an accident waiting to happen. It is quiet common to have the slow lane absolutely clear but all other lanes rammed.

Very well put.

I think the fact that they haven't been taught to drive is the biggest issue. No, really. They pass a crap test then go and buy anything they want. There is no consideration for anyone else, and certainly no concern for others' safety. The amount of times I've had some idiot right up my arris flashing his lights. Can he not see that I cannot go anywhere, due to a) the guy in front of me and b) that the ane next to me is rammed. what am I supposed to do?
They (locals and cab drivers alike)are all the same. They drive with forward observations that stretch to the bumper in front of them. That is it.
As I understand it the driving test requires you to be able to operate a vehicle...ie start, go in a straight line and stop again.

You try and ignore it, you try and take a deep breath and tell yourself you should be used to it by now...... but it still winds me up, almost daily!

The UK is a different world for most things and driving is definitely one of them.

When we visit the UK, my wife can't understand why there isn't a wreck at each junction and why it isn't instant death when driving down a country lane. Wing mirror to wing mirror often with a closing speed of up to 120mph.

Everything is relative I guess.

Btw - my missus did her driving test out here and she's too scared to drive. All she knows is how to drive down road and do a U-turn.

Having started on bikes, I tend to agree, and you certainly find out what a flat tyre is?

MotorCity to Deira and back everyday. Even at 06:30 first 3 lanes empty and you have some numpty sat in the outside lane but 1 doing 100. And they look all confused as to why you are flashing your lights at them.

Maybe we should do a group buy on some Abu Dhabi police style nudge bars?

A gentle pat on the bottom should get people moving over...

25-30 minutes (Terraced Apartments to Clock Tower), all at the speed limit (according to the gps that is!). Emirates Road then past Festival City (Mirdif exit). If you need petrol etc stop just before the Mirdif exit as it is must quieter.

Glad to see things haven't changed too much since I used to live around there.

I never drove there, so only have experience of being a passenger. But similar stuff happens here all the time.

Lets add stopping your car in the outside (fast) lane of sheikh zayed road so that we can prey during the evening rush hour, and they prey at the rear of the car. At least it makes those who stop on the hard shoulder slightly more sensible.....

No way, you must be having a giraffe!!! They dont do that?

I've seen some mental stuff over here, especially during the last few weeks since the world cup announcment and national day last weekend but that beats anything i've seen.
