I may have the "opportunity" to set up our Doha office.

Anyone got any experience of living there?

Been here for 5 years and love it to be honest. Good standard of living, not any more expensive than the UK to live apart from rent and booze. Apart from the really hot three/four months of the year the climate is great. Nice cars are chearper, or seem to be at least.

The infrastructure is miles better now than when I came out. The roads are nothing like as congested with the construction of the new ring roads. Rents are probably going to go up again with the world cup announcement but if you're company are keeping up you wont notice the difference.

When you fancy it, you can nip over to Dubai, AD or Bahrain for the weekend.

All in all its a good place to live and getting better all the time.

ETA, just noticed you live in Dubai already so you know about living in the middle east already. its not Dubai but it's heading that way.

Thanks. What are rents like for, eg, 3 bed flat or villa?

May pop over for a weekend in Jan as not been over for a while. Which are the best bars, restaurants, etc?

Cheers

Rents will be like Dubai, you'll get what you pay for. You could probably get a 3 bed flat for 8-10k but top end stuff will be more like 16-18k. You could get a 2 or 3 bed on The Pearl for 15k I believe. There's not much difference between villas and flats I dont think. People seem to like aparment living, or at least a lot of the ones I know seem to like apartments.

Restaurants - there are dozens of really good ones. Best bars are in the W, the Ritz and La Cigale. Just my opinion and i'm sure somebody else will chip in with their faves. There's quite a few new places coming soon as well so the choice is getting better all the time.
