Been hearing on the news that there is a fear of a backlash against Brits based in Islamic countries as the Wikileaks exposure will bring to light insulting comments or behaviour by the previous UK Government.

Amazing that I left the country 7 years ago partly to escape the Labour government yet it still has the capacity to make things (possibly) difficult for us.

Sh!t, really?
Backlash as it, "Oi you English Bas'tid, eff off" or backlash as in "Mrs C, I think someone has just broken in"?

No idea mate - we'll have to wait and see how bad it is. I think the docs start getting released this evening.

Blinding. Guns are illegal here, aren't they?

Think the backlash from Iran about all of the GCC states pleading with the US to attack them and 'cut the head from the snake' might take the heat off us a little bit!

Fascinating story though; should be a wake-up call to the general population about how sanitised the press is. Everyone knows these things happen and are discussed but nobody has the balls to publish in public.

As Mrstch78Senior once told me 'Never say anything about anyone that you would be embarrassed if they heard'. If only we'd known that instead of working part time in the Halifax my mother could have coined it in as some sort of global diplomacy guru!

Edit to add - I keep being told that I look Lebanese or Palestinian so think we'll be alright!

I think you're right - while Arabs and Persians have never been best of mates it's extremely interesting to hear exactly how serious the feelings really are across the Gulf.

I'm surprised the site hasn't been banned yet here - I've just had a glance through and there is lots of cables pertinent to the UAE, both from Abu Dhabi & Dubai - and it talks about specific weapons procurement, inside political dealings with other GCC states and a very clear fear of Iran and how not to provoke while not pandering - interesting stuff.

Hiding behind a tinyurl here and if any of this is to be discussed, I suggest that nothing is pasted on the site.

I had a look from work yesterday morning only to arrive today to a notice on the intranet home page saying nobody is to try to read it as it could be construed as being party to confidential information!

Downloaded the full 350 MB of the transcripts of the logs last night at home and had a couple of hours reading it. It's not easy to read due to the format but there is some eye-opening stuff in it!
