I love Libya but the mentality is really starting to wear thin....

Are you sure the issue is Libya specific and not just the Middle East way?

There are plenty of issues in the UAE too, as Chilli has shown on here - Champagne isn't served cold enough, Home help only tends to work 23 hours a day, Swimming Pools are often 1 degree too cold.

iirc they only invite in January??? at the end/beginning, when club dues are due.

I thought it was whenever they had a space, and they tried to replace with similar - i.e. if a bloke left they got a new bloke, if a family left they got a new family.

I never joined, I slept through my appointment time - but went a few times as a guest.
