Booked for 6:30pm - still waiting and it's just passed 8pm.

Probably won't help to know that booking early offers no benefit; your request is logged as a job in the system and is simply released at your required time - joining the back of whatever queue exists in your area at that point.

I tend not to use them at all on the way out any more; we just take the Wrongler, get a cab home and pick it up at a convenient time...sometimes several days later.

We had the same issue last night. Usualy they are ok, but I'll avoid them on a Thursday night in future.

This^!

Phone and book on the auto system.

Call back 30 mins before pickup due, get hold of a real live person, ask if any driver has accepted the call.

Repeat at 5 minute intervals until you get bored/give up/taxi arrives.

Simple!

And yes, it's an absolutely crazy system that gives you the impression you've made a booking, when in fact all that's happened is your call is logged and absolutely nothing will happen as a result.

The automated system is only really any good for early morning collections, for flights etc.

To even think about getting a taxi from home on a Thursday evening, you need to be a little bit silly

I usually drive to Mall of the Emirates and either get a taxi from Kempinski (where, incidently, while you were waiting for 2 hours plus for one to come to your house there were probably 50 of the damn things parked up) or just get the Metro. Not ideal if your Mrs is dressed for dinner though...

Use Safe Driver.

Drive your car there, you get driven home.

Avoids using taxis at all which tend to be filthy and badly driven.

Didn't know that was on offer out here - what's the cost?

We use them when doing Friday Brunches, it means we can get the kids home in their car seats. Great service.

Cost is just a tiny bit more than a taxi each-way.

Fair play, would save me the hassle of picking the jeep up the day after - and I usually end up getting a cab to do that anyway!

Got the number for that?

Taxis are often useless here, but it's a lot better than a couple of years ago, where you'd phone up and none would turn up at all, and if you tried to hail one in the street they'd lock the doors and not let you in unless it was a monster journey. Definitely improved since then.

The punter in the picture has that classic 'happy fool post brunch glaze' look across is face. Brilliant stuff. Hope it isn't one of you lot!

ah RTA. Lived in the same villa for 3 years and problems with the taxis turning at the specified time. Then RTA decided that I actually lived at the other end of Satwa Road.....

I actually felt (slighly)for the taxi drivers as they where given the wrong details.....
