Worth a look!
Bonhams are proud to announce that for the first time they will be offering Collectors' Motor Cars for sale by auction at the Royal Mirage Hotel during their traditional October auction season. Watches are a natural partner for motor cars and the auction in October will also include Vintage and Limited Edition Watches.

I thought the auction was very interesting. It was well attended, most of the lots sold, although some didn't reach their reserves - so no bargains to be had!
As mentioned above, the 2 BMWs and the Dino were the highlights of the car section, while the Daytona shooting brake and the Ferrari Pinin expected to reach the highest prices although neither sold.

How was it? I'd love to have gone for a nosey around but couldn't make it last night.
Not bad Geoff. The standouts for me were the 1975 BMW CSL 'Batmobile', the immaculate M1 and the Dino. Hello mate! Thought I recognised your photos.

That Dino blatted past me at a fair speed on the tunnel to Atlantis on my first weekend here last year.
It was wonderful; one of those 'Dubai moments' that really stand out when you first arrive, before your spirit has been sapped and the magic of the place tainted by the likes of du, landlords and the bloody RTA.
(p.s I have the CEO of du's direct e-mail if anyone needs it - a reported five day wait for an appointment became 50 minutes once I'd guessed it last week!)

It can be great when you can get to someone that actually matters.
I remember when I first moved here (2003) and took over an apartment. I went through the motions with DEWA, said that I'm now there and so please simply switch the bills over to my name and don't cut me off - which they said would be fine. Next day while I'm at work they cut me off so I have to go back to DEWA and tell them that I'd done everything properly, paid the deposit, I now have the account so what happened - everyone was clueless and said they'd need to find out what had happened before they could reconnect it.
I simply got up, found the Head Honcho's office, walked in and politely stated my problem and that it would be most appreciated if I could have some power. I also mentioned that I was new in town and while Dubai seemed to be a wonderful city, I was slightly surprised that something so simple could have gone wrong and I hope it doesn't taint my view of the place... cough...
Within ten minutes I had power as he called a crew personally.
Doubt you'd be able to do that now, or even if you could get access would they give a damn?
