Just won a competion for a couple of hot laps up at the Autodrome this Thursday in a Porsche GT3 Cup car, driven by a GT Cup driver (mores the pity).
So if you hear of a runaway GT3 escaping down the Bypass Road that'll be me!
Will take the camera up and if I can ever figure out how to post pics will do so on Thursday afternoon!

Oh hang on, I get it now.
It's the media day at the Autodrome for the opening of the race season. I can't make it as I'm in the UK. Presumably you've won a competition in a mag that's covering the event.
If you happen to see Paul Denby, say hi. He's my teammate this year - we're sharing the TNT orange coloured Cup. Ask him for a ride if you don't get your fill elsewhere. He'll be happy to oblige.

Wow! What a drive that was amazing! Those GT3 cars are amazing! The noise, the grip are just daft. I looked down at the speedo as were passing corner 1 and we were well north of 200km/h as we passed the 100m board with still no sign of anchors being dropped!
The thing that amazed me was that you can wander in and out of the pits at will and get up close and personal with all of the cars and the drivers. Nothing like a UK race event, will definitely we going up for a few of the races.
One of the coolest cars was a little Renault Clip Cup racer, looks the dogs bks!
Car of the day has to be the Maserati GT car, when it started up it was like someone had distilled the essence of motor sport and turned the speakers up to 11.
Some pretty hot totty up there as well!
Harris, Paul was not there on the day unfortunately.
Johnathon, great to see you again!

Harris, it was Tarek elgammel who drove me round. Was first in the car on the day so took a lap or two to get temp into the tyres/brakes but after that it was one of the best experiences I have had in a car. Just amzing how you can feel exactly what the car is doing underneath you.
Not sure who is driving the Masser but it sponsored by Cytec and Gulf Sport (car 47). The exhaust note is something else.

Only just spotted this thread - glad all had fun, was a considerable improvement on last year.
As well as chatting to all and sundry, the main highlight for me was watching karting whiz-kid Edward Jones blat around in the FG1000 single seater. That thing sounds awesome and I can't wait to see a full grid of them screaming down the main straight, especially with some of the region's best up and comers behind the wheels. Hopefully they'll get the series sponsorship sorted by the New Year.
Had a ride in the Clio 197 touring car, the FunCup car (which seems hilarious) and the KTM X-Bow being run by the Palestinian team Sayel Racing. They're using the team and their racing to promote Palestinian culture and heritage (not politics or religion), which adds a bit of depth, and it'll be great to see that battling the Porsches, Maseratis and Ginettas.
I really hope more punters come to the races this year. The Autodrome isn't the best at shouting about the events it puts on, which is a shame because the access you get to the paddock, teams and drivers is first rate, much better than anything you'd get in the UK. And it's free, with stuff for the kids to do too. Hope to see PHers aplenty there from next weekend for the season kick-off!

I agree. It's a fantastic place, and I loved it when I went to watch the 24 hour race...Head through the fence watching a golf or something coming down the straight, only to see an Aston pull out from behind him (towards me) then seeing...(damn, what was it..A mustang? The big red thing that sounded like thunder and pulled your fillings out) pull out from behinf the Aston and go tearing past, no more than 6 feet from my face. Quality.Eidted fro sepllign

Does anyone know if they do much karting there? It would be nice to have a go or get involved without the expense of "normal" racing.

Phil, apart from the Masser the car I wanted a spin in the most was that Clio it looks like enormous fun. Was chatting to the driver beforehand what top guy. Really friendly and has some good tales to tell.
Will also second that about access, maybe we could organise a PH meet at a meeting? Not sure if there is the possibility of a couple of ales up there either during or after the racing? What say you all?

As is free paddock parking for members of certain car clubs *cough*evolve.ae*cough*
Usually only on 'Thunder weekend' or some other wildly branded but otherwise normal raceday.

New karts for the next event! Sodi RX250s, meant to be around 5 secs a lap quicker than the existing karts. Rather looking forward to it, although I royally sucked last time out.
