Anyone working in Algeria??

Hi, my company are looking for myself and a few others to go to Algeria for a couple of weeks work. The area is called Berkin, I think?

I've not heard many great stories about working in Algeria, and according to the Foreign Office website, it isn't the greatest either!!! In fact, their website reads it as a no no!!

Anyone been or out there just now?? Any advice or info would be appreciated.

FCO website is a ploy to make Daily Mail readers holiday in the UK. I think Algeria is pretty tame, there is some Islamic unrest within the country but nothing specific springs to mind that you should be concerned with.

I worked there for a short time a few years ago and it was fine, I had no problems. Entertainment consisted of running (crawling) up a huge sand dune at the back of the camp in the evenings but apart from that it's ok.

I used to work in Hassi; customs at the airport were a bunch of s but apart form that not a bad place at all.

Looks like I'm going then!! I was gonna refuse if the Foreign Office website was gospel, but after speaking to a few folk, it seems that it might actually be ok!!

IMO the FCO is just covering its own backside WRT the travel advice.

It even says that the UAE has "a high threat from terrorism . We believe terrorists may be planning to carry out attacks in the UAE. Attacks could be indiscriminate and could happen at any time, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers"

I work in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Oman on a regular basis, so might need to stop going there if the Foreign Office say it's unsafe!! Lol. I love working in all three of them!! Particularly Oman!!
