Ok guys, I fancy getting away from here for a few days and my retreat of choice is Dubai. I know all about the restrictions during Ramadan but have discussed with a colleague who reckons that there is some, er, loose interpretation of the no booze rule in Dubai at certain times.

Do any of you Dubai chaps know if there is any truth in this?. Or shall I wait until Eid for my next beer/visit?.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Booze is fine after 7pm in the bars etc... what you won't get is live music and recorded music is kept very low.

There are better times that Ramadan to come to Dubai, not least that it falls in August this year and we're hitting close to 50C!

Ah righto, thanks Asterix

I know it's not the ideal time to visit but I need a break from here and I need it soon, I try to get to Dubai for a bit of r and r as often as I can and it has been 4 months since my last visit, so I'm getting a bit twitchy. If booze is off the menu until 7pm then I guess the Friday brunches will be dry. Not a deal breaker, but given the choice...

So. September it is then.

Bugger.

You can still do a friday evening brunch during ramadan, they start at 8 iirc.

Where are you that's so bad that Dubai in ramadan is a potentially better option??

Looking on the bright side, at least the chances of me surviving the daily Gladiatorial commute might improve a little from 1 in 1.

Provided I can get indoors before sunset, that is.

So, are things much better in UAE?

Driving just before Iftar is a complete shocker, even worse so then normal times.

Also you get the Ramadan rush hour if you are lucky enough to get Ramadan hours.

Although I believe the driving in Saudi is even worse than here generally?

You most definitely have to go native on the driving style in Saudi, which can be fun....
