Wouldn’t have a scoby but i would imagine as long as you haven’t go a set of chen shin death racers on the X5 the tyres should be fine?

Try posting in the BMW forum as well and see if that sheds any light.

Chilli, I've had similar issues in a 2007 (new shape) X5. Tyres are a year old and have covered around 20,000km. Run flat Dunlops. Bloody expensive.

Car is vibrating like a tumble dryer at 120kph. Tracking is clearly off as the inside has worn down to the cord. These things go through tyres like my racecar.

I'm about to change them when I get back to Dubai in August. This time round I'm going with non-RFT Pirellis which are a dry weather high performance tyre. Hopefully the non-run flat nature will also improve the ride quality. Will let you know once they're fitted.

Also, FYI, the X5 wheels won't stay in perfect shape forever. Mine are very slightly imperfect on the front after 3 years of bashing potholes, but not bad enough to warrant buying a new set. They're the 20" Y-pattern wheels. You might want to get yours checked out.

Cheers gents.

Harris, many thanks. Can you give me a shout when you replace yours? I'm looking to sell the car, but I can't imagine anyone would buy it after driving it!

Or if they are on Piston Heads! hehe

Depends who comes to look at it, they may not notice anything?

True. However, I suggest even my mum would notice it!

Just put a new set of Cooper Discoverer HTs on my Overland, and it's a car transformed. The old tyres had very definitely 'gone off' - the car vibrated constantly, steering pulled, and whilst there was nothing obviously wrong with the old ones (apart from one which shed its entire tread, but that's another story), but once off the rims, they were clearly distorted and past their prime. Distributor reckons they'll only do two summers due to the heat here compared to four to five in Europe.

Also found one rim out of shape - any good wheel refurb specialists here?

It will be the tyres, when I bought my wrongler the chap hadn't changed the tyres since he bought it in 2006 and the wobble was so bad you couldn't hold the wheel still if you tried!

Had to change the tyres on the wifes Seat too, car was registered in 07 but the tyres dated from 05; I think it must have sat waiting to be sold somewhere in Europe before they shipped it out here.

Tis a pain in the arse none the less.

The reason I have just chaged my tyres is that I started to get a really high frequency vibration through the wheel above 100km/h ish. I had the wheels balanced and the tracking/suspension checked at my last service and Nissan advised that the tyres had gone off.

Still plenty of tread on them (well 2.4mm ish) but they were about 30 months old (40,000km). Changed them for Pilot Sport 2 and the difference is night and day.

A quick bump on this one to ask (as joncastle mentioned above) if anyone knows of a wheel refurber in Dubai? Looking to get a couple of kerbings removed...may even go for a powder coat as well.
