Hi,

Anybody using a V8 Vantage or know of anybody using a V8 Vantage on a daily basis in this region. I'm seriously contemplating a second hand one but not sure how it will cope with the summer. AM say it will be no problem and that all of the cars sold by dealers out here have uprated cooling systems and AC's but i'd like to hear from somebody that's actually done it.

cheers,

It's definitely not a problem. DXB Racing ran one in the 24 hours last year and won their class - the race car is not too far off the road car.

You'll never get to work - you'll be stuck doing loops through long tunnels listening to that glorious growling V8.

From personal experience, I'd recommend going for the manual version if you can. The Sportshift transmission can occasionally have a hissy fit when it gets hot...

If i had the choice, I'd go for a manual as well but there's not much choice second hand so you have to be very lucky when you're looking. Fingers crossed...

cheers.

D'you know, i think you might be right! I hadn't realised my desire for a big, german, greeny/purple, scratched 4x4 was manifesting itself as a hankering for a small, fast, british, two seater. Thanks for pointing that out :-)

I'm off to see if there's any for sale!

Noooo, what you really want to do is buy said V8 vantage and then drive it round to Bahrain and then swap it with me for my 09 car park damaged Nissan Sunny, just think of the favor i will be doing for you by saving all your money on the running costs of the Aston.! wink

Tempting as the Sunny is Dunk, i might just go with the X5, it's a colour thing!

Anyway, i should really have read the AM website before i posted this, they actually make lots of references to hard testing of the cars in Dubai "including multiple top speed run". Guess it'll be ok in the heat then.

Damn!! Worth a try!
You are right with the heat thing as well, I remember seeing a a Kuwaiti guys blog last summer pics he had got of AM doing heat tests in the desert there.

A lot of the Rapide pre-release journalism was done in the ME. I remember one of the UK car mags balking at the 40c heat and an AM engineer replying that they should have been there in the summer!

This must be their third biggest market after the US and UK. Might even pip the UK.

Surely someone on here must know the AM distributor and can organise some high speed testing for us PHers so that we can help C997 make his mind up...

Lovely!! Do you know about the fuse in the boot you can remove so the exhaust switches to loud mode!? Aparrantly its a stupidly expensive AM option to have the switch on your dash....??

This is my mates dads one that he gets to use, it a 07 plate but he found out about the fuse and removes it whenever he has it!! biggrin

Pic stole from south coast Pub club thread!

It's fuse 22, make sure its the one in the boot and not under the bonnet!

Keeps the valves in the exhaust that usually open at 4k rpm open all the time.

Have been reading up on this and it seems to be pretty straightforward to do, as long as you remove the one in the boot and not the bonnet! There are a few stories of folk that removed the wrong one and had a dead car :-)

Still waiting on the car and it's torture! nuts
