Dude-bai, where's my car? (Sorry)
Discussion
The answer is a 911. I know that. Ideally it'd be a manual 964 C2 in red, black or even white. Ideally it will have been owned and cherished by a Sheikh who's only driven it to Mosque on Fridays and loves it so much that all he wants in payment is an e-mail with a photograph of his old car once in a while.
Now that's not going to happen I know...which leaves me stuck. I have about 100k to spend on a decent daily driver and I just cannot find anything that floats my boat. I've looked at Mustangs, TT 3.2s, R32s, considered old BMs and Mercs, including Ms and AMGs and even had a flirt with a little red Corvette.
I saw a 996 C4S last night which was lovely, but over budget, and I need to tread lightly in the company car park as the FD is one of those who immediately associates you having a nice car with being paid too much. Having been 'let-go' and reinstated recently I don't want to push my luck!
A nice 964 would do the trick - new enough to enjoy but old enough for me to reply 'What? That old banger' as he swishes past. There was a lovely looking, original condition, low miler in red with black for sale about two months ago but it seems to be hiding.
Any ideas on where to look - or should I just wait out my time until something suitable turns up? (not very easy with cash burning a hole in my pocket!).

Weird, for some reason I have found myself with a Porsche itch recently as well. After weighing up all the options I just can't justify buying one though.
There is a black pre 996 one I see in Media city at least once a week that is pure sex, not sure which it is but deffo one of the aircooled 'proper' 911's. Always wonder what he'd want for it, should probably stop him and ask one of these days.
Which vette did you try? Excolleague had a C6, was fking rapid, they must be sub 100K now? Would love a blast in a Z06.
I have also coveted a Cherokee SRT8 for a while now, sooo quick, could that be an option? 911 quick, but obviously a different proposition

Vette was an 06 C6, and they are around the 100k mark now. In terms of face melting pace, I've never driven anything like it. The ride and handling is pretty sweet too.
SRT8 noise is awesome, but I just can't bring myself to make another Yank purchase; my Wrongler is bad enough and that's staying.

Cayman S is a truly brilliant bit of kit. Best value in the Porsche range by a country mile. You might be able to get one at the 100k mark.
If you're looking for a 964 or anything non-vanilla in Porscheland, call Paul Denby at Alex Renner Motors. He is the font of all knowledge of what's available in the UAE, and can even import one for you if it's not in the country. www.armotors.ae
In fact, they've got a well sorted 968 track car for sale which has slain a few giants at the Autodrome: http://www.armotors.ae/show_car.htm?id=32 (though I'm guessing you're after something a bit more civilised for the road).

Gentlemen...
The debate is over...........I give you............The E55 AMG!
It a fantastic car. My mate has just bought one for 90k. Ok, it's a 2003 model, but it is prestine. It looks like it's just come out of the showroom, and the interior is the same. Power? Well, I think it's around the 550 mark, but all I know is that it flies. It's the best of both worlds....fast, very comfortable and cruises well.
What have I missed? I'd buy one if I hadn't bought the x5.

996 C4S is on my list of cars to own before I die. Probably in the top 5, which is slightly irrational given that the voluptuous turbo body brings with it a weighty and fairly uneccessary 4wd system. I just love the way they look.
May have to revist my budget and get on with it. Will PM my details over..

Can't sing the praises of the Cayman S enough - Most exciting Porsche this side of a GT3.
I have no doubt that the Cayman S is a wonderful machine but I just can't get to grips with the looks. i don't know what it is but it just doesn't do it for me. Also, with all the massive 4x4s you get in Dubai, it seems really tiny. The 996 C4S is awesome and got rave reviews when it was launched - there have been quite a few on dubizzle lately, all priced around 130,000, with both manual and tip available. Manual would be my choice but resale might be an issue in this part of the world. I have no experience of tip but it just seems wrong.
Insurance is also an issue... not sure I'd be wanting to drive round in a AED 130,000 car with only third party cover.

There's a lovely 993 at Alex renner at the moment - advertised for 109K but I'm sure you could haggle it down. May have to revist my budget and get on with it. Will PM my details over..

And what's with the insurance? Mine are all fully comp through RSA I believe. Unless there's something I've missed!
