So, I went through the normal process of obtaining my licence, and was given my limit. However, I have recently been told that I have exceeded my limit, and because of this would I like a free case of beer? Well, of course I would. So I stuck it in the trolley with the 3 bottles of white and a couple of bottles of red I was also buying.

What is this all about? The guy in the shop didn't seem to understand either the situation or English, so I'm a little confused. I'm guessing that as such a good customer, they continue to sell me stuff, without applying it to my account, and therefore it "never happened".

Is this accurate??!!

Cheers.

I didn't think you really needed a liquor license but, if it means you get free beer, I'm all for it

Are you sure it was your license and not some loyalty scheme? (I seem to remember seeing something like that when in A&E in Mirdif)

It's to encourage you to get durnk more and spend in their shop.

If you use your full limit in 1 shop they give you a case. If you use part of your allowance in a different shop they usually don't give you anything.

I gave up getting a lisence a few years ago. The shops in Dubai add 30% TAX to their shelf prices. They don't do that in Baracuda!!

Plus I have found a delivery company that will go there, buy your booze and bring it back to you. We just did a AED6K shop between 4 of us and it cost about 50dhs each..... delivered. No risk of SHJ 'pirates'.

Dan do you not just pick it up in Musaffah Spinneys after work? Easier/cheaper I would've thought.

I think that's it - it's one of the roads after you pass the Honda service centre, I think it's first or 2nd right (if you're coming from Al Jaber direction) and then about 1/3rd of the way down on the right hand side.

hehe

African & Eastern - the other main company is MMI.

I've never bothered in 6 odd years - I usually do a run once every six weeks or so up to RAK or Ajman. Far cheaper and much better range.

I forgot that they add the tax ontop of the advertised price at MMI, so off to baracuda next time methinks.

Ten-four rubber ducky!

We do one of these every couple of months. Usually on a Friday morning as we've not found anyone who's been held to ransome by the 'Sharjah Beer Pirates' before Mosque kicking out time.

I'm doing a run this weekend, we've only got half box of horrific red 'crack it open late on at a bbq - nobody will notice' standard wine and some whiskey left. I'm on the whiskey and my folks are here next week so it is time to stock up.

I tucked into a Lagavulin 16 last night sourced at Baracuda - they have a pretty good selection. They also stock some of the more well known 'ales' like Spitfire and Old Speckled Hen.

I think they're a crowd who will watch you coming out of Barracuda with a load of drink, phone their mate in Sharjah and give them the car details, the mate will then intentionally crash into you as you drive through Sharjah and then try to black-mail/extort money from the driver for being in possession of alcohol.

I always jump onto the newer bypass road now before I get to Sharjah 'proper' - much faster than trying to get past the hold ups by the National Pants junction. Lovely big 12 lane highway and you can see the cameras for miles. Come back into Dubai past the Dragon Mart and Ras Al Khor.

I read somewhere that the tax on beer here in Bahrain is 125% FML!!

But whatever, fuel costs bugger all so i offset it against that! Ive got 5 beer shops within 10mins of me traffic permitting, Gulf Brands, BMMI, A&E and some other thing all with different ranges some good some bad and same with the prices and deals.
Walk in one door and back the truck up to the other and fill it with black bin bags! smile

Only the designer tipples are really expensive like Bud & Heiniken, Jack, Walking Johnny etc.

Apart from the price its just the same as going to sainsburys, no pirates either!!
