Warning to all.
The low life scum who clean our house stole an envelope of cash and my wifes wedding jewelry from a locked drawer today. This is a major pain of course and my wife is devastated but the worst bit is:
If you have anyone working in your house and you are not their official sponsor be warned that the Police will not follow up a complaint against them unless you first admit breaking visa rules by illegally employing someone and pay a 50k fine.
Oh, and they take a fair amount of pleasure in breaking this to you.

Is it illegal?
We have a cleaner who is sponsored by someone else, and does a few hours 3 times a week, in her spare time. Is that illegal? Please don't tell me I have to go back to washing my own pants.
Totally illegal - the police knew that it was a totally accepted practise but said that they have no flexibility. The fine is 50k and you are never allowed to register a workers visa for employment in future. Ours is history.
