Warning to all.

The low life scum who clean our house stole an envelope of cash and my wifes wedding jewelry from a locked drawer today. This is a major pain of course and my wife is devastated but the worst bit is:

If you have anyone working in your house and you are not their official sponsor be warned that the Police will not follow up a complaint against them unless you first admit breaking visa rules by illegally employing someone and pay a 50k fine.

Oh, and they take a fair amount of pleasure in breaking this to you.

you were employing illegals? They stole from you? Then when you told the Police they said IF you take it further then we will have to? did you not get off lightly? They could have just done you there and then?

Is it illegal?
We have a cleaner who is sponsored by someone else, and does a few hours 3 times a week, in her spare time. Is that illegal? Please don't tell me I have to go back to washing my own pants.

Yeah, we had some money missing about AED 700 but can't track it down to the cleaners or ourselves miss laying it.

I'm off to buy a safe from Dragonmart this weekend so can lock stuff away, just to be sure.

Totally illegal - the police knew that it was a totally accepted practise but said that they have no flexibility. The fine is 50k and you are never allowed to register a workers visa for employment in future.

We use a contract company and have a maid come in for half a day per week.

Maybe a litte more than a friends recommendation but sorts all that stuff out.

I have the luxury of a live-in.

Kinda need it with the amount of washing etc the family generates and works out much cheaper than getting a contractor to do the amount of work we need from a cleaner!

Have a Dragon-Mart safe too though; can never be too careful.
