I am currently in Libya, working fr a subsiduary of the NOC and am looking in a few months to make the move to Bahrain.
Can anyone tell me what its like (especially for the young(ish) single girl about town..? what are the best job sites and what I should be asking for..? and most importantly - can I bring my cars over..?
I am currently a PA to the chairman and have lots of experience in PA/Project Management, but no degree, have years of work experience though.
Just putting the feelers out at the moment...
If not Bahrain, where else is good..? Dubai seems a bit..ummmm...not my style from what I have heard.
Cheers

Why is it that so many people have a bad opinion of Dubai?
I've recently managed to convince my sister and her other half to come and visit us, all at my expense. She had to really convince the OH that it was fine, as he had stated that it wasn't the sort of place he wanted to visit.
When questioned about the place, he knew nothing about it.
Claire, not having a go, just wondered what your perception of Dubai was?Cheers.

Claire: Good news. Canada will still allow you to bring your cars and we have tunnels just an hour and a half from here where they did the new Merc commercial. There is some bad news though........
In 12 months you have to send them back home.

Chilli - Not so much bad rep - I guess from what I have seen when researching just doesn't appeal. I will give it ago if a job comes up there. Just I would like to try Bahrain first.
TVR - Would love to try Canada at some stage, but I fail on points - no Degree - I think it would be the same for Dubai actually..?!?!?!

You have mail again...
Hope you enjoy your new found freedom with your travels. Anybody that travels to our neck of the woods will be treated the same as J & C were last year and they just might get a TVR fix while on their travels. One car out of three is bound to be roadworthy at all times.

If you go to Bahrain keep those TVR's at home, the roads are crap and driving is terrible! My sister has lived here for about eight years and I'm over visiting at the moment it appears quite a few people have gone home as they have been hit with closures etc, apparantly it's starting to look up a bit now though?
O/P,
Sorry to hijack thread - but what is Libya like ? Always fancied a vacation there. Beirut is supposed to be lovely.
FYI - I was based 45 minutes from Bahrain over the Causeway in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia back in 2000 - and my head office was in Dubai
Bahrain is lovely , cosier than Dubai and plenty to do.
But...Dubai is great, don't discount going there. need to be on a good package though, rent is dear !
Also , look into Oman or Abu Dhabi.
PS...I don't have a degree either

I don't have a degree, but have 18 years good experience in banking. Most places won't even look at your cv unless you have one. I was offered the job as my boss is also a mate.
However, that may be coming to an abrupt end, and getting another will be very difficult, given the times and all that.
With a good permy job, I can see myself staying here for a while....a much better lifestyle than I enjoyed in London.

Hmm.. so I will need a degree..? even for a PA/EA position..?
I have never discounted Dubai, but heard very good things about Bahrain.
Libya, umm, well its sandy. You have Ghdames about 5 hour drive from Tripoli, Sabratha and Leptis are both a few hours adrive as well, you can also go on an organised tour into the desert.
Go west and you get to Tunisia in 2 hours, go east to Egypt in a lot of hours. If the map says its x hours away, double it.
