Yes. Is excellent. Is great bar on the top floor too (can't remember the name of it but good for pre/post-dinner drinks).

Cool smile

It's our 1st Wedding Anniversary today - I'm in charge of dinner and the wife was in charge of the day.

So we had a lovely light lunch at the Monarch Hotel, Ruth's Chris, followed by a 90 minute Balinese massage - one of the best I've had. Still feel all relaxed and chilled.

Very much looking forward to this evening.

Having now eaten at every steak house in Dubai (I think), Ruth's Chris is my overall favourite, good choice.
What's different about a Balinese massage?

Dunno really - not something I partake in that often.

I know that a proper Thai massage (sans lilo hehe) has a bit of wrenching involved.

This one seemed to be deep and very thorough. Was on the verge of being painfull but never quite stepped over the pain threshold.

Really enjoyed it.

Ok.

Back from Refletts (having to log on to send a few work emails - Bah!)

What an experience, for both my tum and my wallet!

The food is exceptional - never had a meal like it. We both went for the tasting menu and the wine flight for each course.

Stunning food, amazingly presented and was a multi-layOk.

The food is exceptional - never had a meal like it. We both went for the tasting menu and the wine flight for each course.

Stunning food, amazingly presented and was a multi-layered taste sensation. I think it was one of the pre-pre-pre starters that we had where the flavour just developed in the mouth for a good minute after eating. Very interesting stuff - never thought I'd ever eat Sea Urchin, tongues and all etc... Most of the courses were multi-layered in that you'd have up to three different dishes served in various forms per course. It was officialy a five course meal but felt like many more due to the tit-bits that would pop up mid course and the deserts never ended!

I have the menu if anyone is interested.

My main reservation was the wine recommendations. Started with white, with a bit more white, then a white port, then some more white, then one red, and then... more white. Not balanced enough for my liking - I guess it's more of a personal thing rather than anything else although the wife shared the same view.

Another thing that was outstanding was the service. Never overbearing but extremely personal - to the point where the assistant manager came with us back to the reception of the hotel and waited until we were safely in a car after we had finished - that was fab to be honest - lovely fella (Martin) and all the staff where very knowledgeable and on the ball.

The wallet bit? I doubt I will ever shell out this much again for a meal. It borders on the obscene - however, the experience was superb, the food exciting and highly unusual and the service was the best I have ever had in a restaurant so it just about makes sense in a 'very special treat' scenario.

At the end of the day, the wife loved it, as did I - might get hit by a bus tomorrow so what the hell smileered taste sensation. It might not have been to your taste but the wine seems to have done the trick eh?!
