Anyone going? I'll be down on the Saturday, but have no idea what kind of crowd/atmosphere there will be. It's more expensive than the first Ozzie race, although not by a huge amount (US $77 vs US $105), but a lot of people seem to be put off by the price. Thoughts?

Am doing the RAK half marathon Friday morning, but may pop down on one of the days, probably the Friday. There is also the Emaar classic car show - did anyone go last year and if so is it worth a visit?

Anyone go in the end? I spent all of Saturday there and had a great time. The Chevrolet Supercars were particularly amusing with some sort of action on pretty much every lap. Aussie V8s were also great to watch, especially as the sun went down.
You can't argue with the facilities at Yas either, although the ticket prices were on the steep side. It was a shame there weren't more people there, but the ones that were sat with us up in the West Grandstand seemed to have a good time. Certainly planning to go again next year.

Did they televise the GT Championship? What channel did you see the Aussie V8s?

I'm not sure. I was only flicking up and down the pages ensuring the bloody thing still worked!
Given that I have over 1700 channels (seemed a good idea at the time!), I'll take a stab at either Show Sports, or the (is it) JSG/JSC something like that.
I'll check again tonight.

How's the Porsche running?

I think it was Show Sports 4 that I saw Friday's race on, live. Missed the start though, and don't know if the support races were on. Bloody good coverage though, loving the millions of cameras all over the car and the live links to the drivers. Would like to see more of that in other series.

Yeah, the swivelling interior shots, under car shots and the helmet cams were all awesome. Are you watching, Bernie?

Brilliantly. I hope I don't jinx it by saying this.

P3 at Yas, just missed a comfortable P2 as I had to avoid a spinning Ginetta in front of me and lost position near the end.

Bit annoyed they won't release the TV footage to the drivers - they say the rights are protected by the Aussie V8 channel so now I'm never gonna get to see it.

Cool, another podium. Getting a bit of a habit for you!
That's a bit off not being able to see it. wouldn't it be out on DVD at some stage?

They used to offer DVDs last season in touring cars but they don't seem to be doing it this season.

Was Ian from Talkabout Media at Yas or does he only operate at the Autodrome? Might he be able to source something for your own personal consumption?

He was indeed there at Yas and very active. I'll give him a shout, but he would probably have the same restrictions. Still, no harm in asking...

That's confusing. If they showed two races, it must be a repeat from last season - the Touring Car Champs are double headers, but this year's GT Champs are one 45 minute race. If the car was in ARM livery (red and black) then it was last season, if cobalt blue it was this season.

Am thinking about making a move back to Touring Cars next season but haven't decided yet.

Ah, must have been last year then, as the car was red....I was wondering why it had changerd colour.
Sounds like a no brainer....twice the racing!

Well I prefer the longer endurance format, but TCC costs are more manageable than GTs.

Have you got a link to the series calendar? I'd like to come along one day, and bring a couple of the guys with me.

Cheers.
