I, allegedly, had a visitor recently - and when they returned to the UK they rang me and said they didn't realise codeine was illegal here. I asked why, and they allegedly had a load of it in their bag all the time they were here. I checked and they took it all back with them thankfully.

What would've been the penalty if caught?

Considering it's a milder form of heroin/morphine, I can't imagine it would be much fun to be caught with the stuff...

I'm sure it wouldn't have been good! Assuming the Codeine was supplied on presciption and they had a copy with them I would say it would mean perhaps being held until the prescription was found to be genuine.

If not then worst case scenario would be 4 years in pokey.

There was a case a couple of years ago when a wmone was caught at the airport with some drugs that were illegal, however, she did not have the prescription with her, so she ended up behind bars until it was cleared.

Can't be nice to be caught with what they has though, it would defo meant some jail time.

Codine is not allowed, even on prescription.

Minimum 4 years sentence, although you could look forward to a possible pardon come Ramadan!

Yup - just sweat it out in some stinking outdoors prison with a load of bearded rapists for a couple of months over the summer and you'll be home in no time....

(shudder)
