Exporting a car to another emirate
Discussion
Hello all,
Has anyone gone through the procedure and can shed some light as to the requirements. My sister has just passed her probation in Abu Dhabi and her position is now permanent. Understandably she is keen on getting rid of her rental and has been to view a few SLKs this weekend, one of which we agreed on today. Lovely 2009 example, Gargash supplied and 18 months warranty left.
She has a residents visa for AD. The easiest way would be to register and insure the car in my name and then she can use it in AD. Might be a bit troublesome to re-register it in Dubai on an annual basis.
Otherwise what is the procedure for exporting it. I have looked on the web and note that you have to go to the registration office at Barsha or one of the others with the seller and tell then you want to export it. Pay fines and fees etc and then you get blue export plates. Then it should be loaded onto a transporter as you are technically not allowed to drive it. Is that correct?
After all that, goto the registration centre in AD to register it there. Presumably the seller does not need to be present when the car reaches AD?
Anyone been through all this who can verify or suggest a reliable outfit to do all this would be much appreciated!
Cheers!

You are about there on the details - I think that there is an option for you to purchase short term 'export' insurance which covers you for the couple of days you have from exporting to registering rather than trucking the car over though I doubt that would be too expensive.
There is a firm who'll do it but the name escapes me - it's a fairly british sounding name beginning with an 'M' I think and they advertise in the paper. 'Mid'something perhaps.

Like your Sister, I have an AUH Visa yet live in DXB - one way around this is to go and buy your own number plate. All you need is a copy of your DL and cash. Once you have purchased the plate, it is yours for life and then all you need to do when registering the car is show proof that you own the plate, copies of your passport and visa and also your tennancy agreement/DEWA bills and you are good to go.
Thanks Yorky, she'll check but presumably the tenancy agreement is only required if she goes down your route? I dont think you need to provide your tenancy agreement or any DEWA bill when registering the traditional route? For reasons we shall not go into she does not have a tenancy agreement!
