Howdy,
Where do the discerning Dubai meat eaters get their produce from?
I've been pretty universally disappointed at the quality available from Spinneys, Waitrose et al, and although I found a nice bit of fillet at the Butcher's Shop & Grill in Mall of the Emirates, it occurred to me that there must be other places that are a better option than the supermarkets.
Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

That's a rather random question for a motoring forum - even for you Mr Phill! Have you tried expatwomen.com?

You tried the Organic supermarket in Dubai Mall? Or there's a Gourmet Deli place in the Oasis Centre on SZR (just down from AGMC) that has a butchers section - they even sell guinea fowl...

With little home reared meat in the region, it's always gonna be tricky to get something super special. What meat are you after? And are you sure you're cooking it right?

This place is AUH and Al Ain - but does pretty decent meats - I had some at a BBQ last weekend:

Now now Mr B, you should know that PH is the first port of call for pretty much anything.
Particularly thinking fillet steak, and yes, I cook it awesomely. But the Spinney's stuff is pretty cheap and ordinary - I'm thinking more pricey, special treat stuff. The stuff at Butcher's Shop and Grill was pretty good, but only had a small range.
Will try the organic place in Dubai Mall, I've not been there yet.
Matt - cheers, if I'm down in AUH at any point I'll have a butchers. So to speak.

Yeah, pretty much same choice as Spinney's tbh...

I find Waitrose is pretty good - they had some monster T-bones in there the other day.

Apparently, you can get chickens in the Organic place that are bigger than the sparrows you get everywhere else in town. Though they ain't cheap...

Best steaks I have bought have come from Organic Foods & Cafe at the Greens - Nils knows his stuff, and runs an outfit called Nils & Robbie Butchery to supply their stores.

Oddly, the second best steaks I've found came from Lulu Hypermarket in Al Barsha, but you've got to be lucky. They had some superb, heavily marbled New Zealand sirloins that were very nearly as good as wagyu.

As for chickens, buy the frozen ones from the Organic shops, but only on the days when they give you 20% off everything. Defrost overnight, roast very slowly for a long time and enjoy some real old-fashioned flavour.

Have heard that the best place of all is the Iranian butcher's stall at Shindaga market, especially the lamb, but have never found it. Fruit and veg market is a riot.

This thread is a little ghey gents - the depth of knowledge of organic produce venues amazes me. I always drive past these places and imagine bored Jumeirah Janes' out-eostrogening each other with their selections of pro-biotic-soya-mocha-latte meal substitutes!

To address the testosterone balance: I buy steak from Geant of all places and it is most often awesome - big slabs that don't shrink an inch when cooked and really deliver those meat-sweats. I take a moment to pat dry the outer edges for that quick browning action and then cook it quickly on a hot charcoal BBQ, like a man, and I wash it down with beer. My best yet was at the weekend and the internal colour and texture is best described as beef flavoured Fry's Turkish Delight.

^^^^^^^^^^^ hahahahaha, well said.

we used to use a butcher in Hor Al Anz, who was more wholesale than private, but you could go and buy a 2KG sirloin joint for around AED200 and cut it to your required size and freeze the rest. Was very good quality

You can't really call the thread ghey and then talk about your preference for "quick browning action"... biggrin

Yep - agreed on the Chickens - flown in fresh from Germany I believe, much better than any of the otehr supermarket rubbish.
