Evening all,
So, after what seems like months of wrangling over the contract, I'll be heading over to Dubai on Sunday. Will be in a hotel for the first 3 weeks (Habtoor Grand), but if ayone knows of a nice, furnished apartment with access to pool/gym going, then please let me know. Would prefer a rolling monthly contract, if one exists. Oh, and if anyone knows where theres a nice bar, this would also help.

Cheers.

I might know of a newly built place in the Marina, owned by a colleague who was considering moving in, but might not.

I'll ask him tomorrow at the GP if you want.

If you head downstairs there is pub called the Underground at your hotel. Decorated....wait for it...like an Underground station/train. Or across the road try out Buddha Bar at the Grosvenor House hotel, v popular on a Thursday/Friday the cars outside will take some beating. But next door to your hotel is a Dubai institution Barasti at the Mina al Seyahi, great bar shows all the sport and is v nice.

Congratulations and welcome!

Underground is also the home of the Liverpool Reds supporters club which if you're a Liverpool fan like me makes it a cracking place to watch the game.

Barasti is indeed legendary and you can't knock a place where you can turn up in shorts and flip flops and have a beer on the beach...I didn't get much chance of that in Birmingham anyway! We're heading there tonight as its one of the first places we'll hit on the way back from the GP.

happy days.

Dubizzle.com is a good way of finding apartments. Prices are (relatively) reasonable at the mo - I'm in a one bedroom place in Downtown Burj Dubai for 85,000 per year, payable in two cheques. Building is right next to Dubai Mall and has pool, gym and supermarket. I've also heard that there's some places near Al Badia and Festival city that are as little as 65,000 per year.
I imagine you'll struggle to find somewhere with monthly rent - quarterly is the best I've heard of.
Have fun!

Hot?! This is gloriously mild weather Chilli - summer is like a standing in an oven.

Hope you're enjoying it.

Ditto on the warm, just cooling down now! Would be up for a few beers and ribs at the Red Lion at the Metropolitan which is a one of the oldest pubs in Dubai drop me a message and let me know when good for you, I am off for my first horse riding lesson at 5pm today but anytime after is good for me.

PS make sure to take Mrs Chilli to the Rattlesnake at the Metropolitan I am sure she will love it *cough cough* (It's a bit of a knocking shop)

Calling it 'a bit' of a knocking shop is like saying there's still 'a bit' of construction in Dubai. I describe it as a nightclub where all of the women will sleep with you.

Just tell her they have one of the best cover bands in the city, this much is true. Sweet Child of Mine being one of my favourites..not that I'm a regular....I've not been more than once....a month...st.

Will be passing later myself on the way to dinner at Souq Al Bahar - any excuse to drive the new motor really.
