I’ve seen on various sites and magazines some epic roads around the region, however I’m yet to see anything other than boring straights and roundabouts in real life.

I thought with a 4 day weekend coming up (Mount Arafat day + a day of Eid) 26th – 29th November, it would be the perfect time to try and find them.

This was the image that made me think (that and I’m bored in the office)!

Does anyone else fancy planning a trip to take in the best roads the UAE and Oman has to offer? The weather should be nice then, so could even camp out – or just stay in hotels!

If you're going to look for that road, be prepared for a very long drive. I drove the Phantom down there for CAR Middle East (I'm the Ed) and it's a seriously long slog through the dullest desert imaginable. The hairpins to the Yemen border (pictured) are epic though and there's plenty of other nice roads down there too.

However, it's gonna be full-on driving for two days to get there and back. You'd be better off sticking with the roads around Muscat - the run up to the Shangri'La is great. Or why not head to Musandam? The road to Khasab is one of the best in the region - check http://www.carmiddleeast.com/article-2-299-the_oma... for the feature I did there last year.

Another great run is the road from Liwa to Moreeb Hill - ie where Hammond spanked the LP670-4 SV - I drove the X-Bow down there in February: http://www.carmiddleeast.com/article-2-642-ktm_x_b...

When I've got a little more time (maybe in 2010) I'll do a run down of the decent roads I know in the region.

Welcome to PH smile

Always good to hear of decent motoring in the region, makes a change from the stop/start/crash majority.
