Driving from Dubai to Muscat
Discussion
Morning!
Going to the Shangri La in Muscat this weekend for a birthday and have a few qns for anyone who has done a similar trip by car:
How long should it take? (based on leaving early AM on a Friday)
Border crossing - pain in the bum or not? Heard that there are a number of departure forms and visa on arrival forms to fill in. I have Oman car insurance already.
Any decent sights to be seen along the way? (or just more sand)?
What is there to do in Muscat? Any local restaurant recommendations?
Thanks in advance for any replies !

Should take about five hours in a car. Border crossing CAN be a complete pain in the arse, depending on what kind of passport you have. If you're British, you'll sail through. If anyone in your party isn't, it can take a lot longer. Last time I went, with a party of mixed nationalities, it took four hours at the border...Going to the Shangri La in Muscat this weekend for a birthday and have a few qns for anyone who has done a similar trip by car:

Someone else will have to help with the other questions, I went on a coach and didn't notice anything on the way. The Shangri La is very nice but some way out of Muscat - the restaurants in the hotal are excellent though. As is the road going up to it. Hope you have something nice to drive!
